This week in ELAR

We have begun the pre-writing process for our Expository/Research paper. The students are very excited to be able to choose their own topic to explore. We went through the LISD website and found several elementary research websites to use.

We will be going to the library on Monday and completing our Istation Assessment on Tuesday. We will also be reading a new story about Space in our Journeys book.

This week in Math

Last week we worked on both comparing and ordering decimals and rounding decimals. We will be reviewing all of Topic 1 on Monday and their first test will be Tuesday, September 23. I have added the Topic 1 test online for review. It will not be due until Tuesday, but I am encouraging my students to work on it this weekend. The instructions to log-in are below.

Wednesday we will begin Topic 2 which focuses on adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals.

The website for their math textbook is www.pearsonrealize.com. Their log-in is their last initial, first initial, ID number@lisd (example: va12345678@lisd). All student passwords are abcd1234.

This Week In Science

This week we will pick back up with our Science Tools section of the Science Safety and Tools unit. The students will be researching the proper use of science tools by way of a blendspace page Mrs. Finley created. They will use the information gained through their research to create a chart displaying the tool, the use of the tool, and a picture of the tool.

This Week in Social Studies

This week we will be making up the Celebrate Freedom we missed last week due to Outdoor School. We will be working in the textbook for a lesson each day culminating with a test on Friday. Mrs. Finley will be talking with the students each day about studying the most important parts of the lesson. The students will be given notes for each lesson, rather than taking their own for this week only. This unit is so brief, we just felt this was the easiest way to stay focused and keep on schedule! Please discuss the importance of studying their notes for this test! This will be our first test of the year in Social Studies!
