Trailblazer Times

produced by the stlp blazer class

We have a bunch of new things starting up at CEMS this year! If you would like to get involved, you can join one of our many sports teams or extracurricular clubs! Each month our student-led technology program (BBN) will provide you with important school updates!

Teacher Spotlight, Mrs. Kiefner

In every student newsletter, we will be featuring a teacher who impacts others outside of the classroom as well as inside the classroom. This month, we are happy to speak about Writing Teacher, Mrs. Kiefner. Every week, Mrs.Kiefner volunteers at Brighton Recovery Center for Women who struggle with addictions. Sometimes, she mentions her volunteer work to students so they will be inspired to help others. She likes meeting women from different backgrounds and helping, supporting, and encouraging them through a difficult time. Thank you Mrs. Kiefner for making an impact on your students and others!

Students conserve energy

Every other Friday afternoon, the Energy Team meets and walks around school to turn off Chromebook carts, lights, and computers. This year, they are working on Tuesdays during Blazer Time to empty classroom recycle bins. The team is a group of 7th and 8th graders, but they are eager to have 6th graders join them. Their main goal is to conserve energy around school.

We have lots of clubs available for students this year! Each month, we will introduce them to you.

Zensters Club

Zensters has a lot of members this year, but there's always room for more! Meetings are being moved to every other Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:15p.m.

Mythology Club

We will be discovering the incredible stories of gods and heroes within the Greek, Egyptian, Roman, and Norse Pantheon. We will also be sharpening our skills in creative writing and art. See Mr. Otto for details. It begins November 7th, 2:30-4:30 p.m. in room 710

The Baking Club will meet on Fridays during October- January. Mrs. Lonkard is hosting this club in her room (808). If you are interested to join, see Mrs. Lonkard.

This club is offered to 7th grade students only and takes place on Mondays (every other week) in room 705. Students will play card and board games, have snacks, learn about strategy, and make new friends. These are the dates that the Gamers' Club will meet: 10/4, 10/19, 11/2, 11/16, 11/30, and 12/14

Need help with Summit? There is after-school assistance available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:45 p.m. Pick up the ESS Summit Lab Tutoring Form and Permission Slip in the main office or see Ms. Bloom in room U-6. You must have the permission form completed to stay after school for this program.

Basketball Tryouts

Basketball tryouts for boys and girls will take place October 15th-17th. Any student that wishes to tryout must have the KHSAA Physical Form filled out completely. This includes the parent part and physician signature with information filled out. The forms can be found on the CEMS website under Athletics. They can also be picked up in the front office. Students must bring the forms the first day of tryouts. If they do not have these forms, they can’t tryout.
