Shakespeare in Action
Under the direction of Mrs. Nichole Riehle and Ms. Tiffany Neuhoff, the 33 sixth graders used some of their related arts time learning lines and making the scenery for Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Nights's Dream." This amazing group of students were very busy putting their own spin on this classic play.
Below are pictures showing the amazing work that is being done to create the scenery.
Both groups of aspiring actors and actresses presented their plays to the student body on Friday, May 25, 2018, at 8:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. These performances took place in the SMS Cafeteria.
Looking at the pictures below one can see just how much enthusiasm these young actors and actresses had for this huge project.
Thank You, Mrs. Beck!
And, a very big thank you for everything she did in coordinationg the collection of devices and chargers the last two days of school in both the middle school and the high school.
Thanks, Katy!

This year the donation topped $36,000, which will be used to add another playground -- this time at The Milestones Children's Center in Evansville.
Play Day has raised nearly a half million dollars to support projects for area children with disabilities.
End of the Year
The end of the year is also a little bittersweet as there will be changes here at SMS. First of all, we wish Mr. Aaron Wiles, eighth English teacher, the best of luck as he pursues other teaching interests next year at Castle High School.
Next year will also bring a new principal to Southridge Middle School. Mr. Greg Gogel will assume his duties over the summer. We welcome Mr. Gogel to our building.
And with that last announcement comes the realization that Mr. Kelly Murphy will be leaving our building to take on a new position at Huntingburg Elementary. To say that he will be missed next year is an understatement. The staff has let him know that we are not necessarily pleased with this move. In fact, some staff members have made sure that his move will not be an easy one. Pranks have been played, tears have been shed, and memories have been shared. We know he is not going far, but his absence will be felt. Mr. Murphy, you will be missed more than you can ever know. Good Luck in your new adventures!!!
And Now from Mr. Murphy. . .
SOUTHRIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL
From Your Principal’s Office
The close of the 2017-2018 school year is now upon us and boy did that go fast! This will not only be the last newsletter of the school year, it will be my last one as the principal at SMS. I can honestly say, it has been a whirlwind these last two years, and I have enjoyed the time spent with your children. The middle school age is interesting, and I have had some great conversations with the students in trying to help them through these ever-changing years. In every conversation, the main focus was the student’s well-being, and for that, I am thankful to each and every parent and guardian.. We may not have agreed on everything, but your child’s best interest was always at the forefront, and that is a mark of a great school.
Thank you for this opportunity to be YOUR principal the past two years. Your passion in regard to your child’s education is very refreshing and the reason I moved my family to this corporation 14 years ago. A public school can only succeed if the community rallies behind it, and it is safe to say this community cares deeply about the education the students receive. I have been in other corporations where this passion is not evident, and their success is directly related to that lack of passion.
I am thankful to the staff for their passion as well. This staff has been great to work with, and their passion regarding the success of the students runs deep. Mr. Gogel, the new SMS principal, is coming into a great school, and I know he will do a great job. Mr. Gogel is just as passionate as the staff and that can only equal success for SMS.
With that, I bid adieu to SMS. Thank you again, and I hope you enjoy the summer with your children.
