Abrams Parent News
February 26, 2021
Hello Abrams Families!
We hope that this finds you and your family well and healthy!
Last week, we were notified that Abrams Elementary School has been nominated as a Showcase School for Capturing Kids Hearts for the 3rd year in a row! As a school, one of our focus areas is on building and maintaining strong relationships with students and creating classroom communities that allow students to grow and learn at high levels.
Due to the snow day this week, we will hold our next Parent University on March 11th. Our focus will be on student mental health and we hope that you are able to attend.
You may have been following the news regarding state testing requirements. At this point, we are planning to conduct state testing. Our teachers are positive about this opportunity and it will help us to know what our students have accomplished and what they still need to learn. We believe that our students are learning and growing and that they will clearly demonstrate that through these assessments.
We are excited to share our Read Across America activities for next week. Please feel free to send your students to school dressed to reflect the theme for the day. Students should be able to participate in PE, recess, and learning wearing the costume that they come to school in.
Spring pictures are next week, individual student photos only. See further in the newsletter for more information.
We want to share with you that our students are doing an amazing job of wearing their masks and keeping both their noses and mouths covered. We currently do not have any new student Covid cases, and we have not seen illnesses like strep, stomach flu or the flu spreading this year! Thank you for supporting the health of all students by communicating with our nurse and by keeping sick students home.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Lois Skaggs, Principal

You are limited to 10 minutes and your video will not be visible until it has been approved. Please feel free to record a video if you are so inclined. You will need to have your camera on to share the book.

Student Drop off and Pick Up Procedures
We ask that all parents on school grounds wear face coverings that cover both their nose and mouth at all times.
Arrival:
We are asking that if at all possible, families consider accessing Abrams from the back of the school, either using O’Connell from the south side of Abrams or Hare Ave from the north side of Abrams.
When coming through the carpool line, please do NOT drop students off in front of the kindergarten playground. Please pull all the way forward and drop students off in front of the school. This helps us to keep the carpool line moving and get cars off of the surrounding streets.
If you need to get out of the car to assist your child, please park in the lot behind the school off of Wetzel Avenue and walk with your child to their building access door. Please do not get out of your vehicle in front of the school as it holds up the line.
Please do not allow students to exit your vehicle at the bus loading zones at the rear of the school. All students being dropped off by car must be dropped off at the front of the school for safety.
Dismissal:
Parents picking up students at dismissal time should park in the lot at the rear of the school and proceed to either the kindergarten blacktop (Kindergarten students only) or the basketball court. Students must present their dismissal card to the teachers on duty before leaving for the day.
March Character Trait of the Month - Forgiveness
PLEASE HAVE STUDENTS WEAR ONE MASK TO SCHOOL AND KEEP ANOTHER MASK IN THEIR BACKPACKS.
Please have your child bring a water bottle to school each day.
