Traders Point Christian Schools Expands Athletic Programs
WHITESTOWN, Ind. – As Traders Point Christian Schools (TPCS) continues to grow, the athletic department is also growing and changing. The past three years have seen record enrollment numbers, and TPCS continues to add programs and staff to support this growth. Further, Traders Point High School was admitted into the Indiana High School Athletic Association in 2014 and will begin playing in the end of season tournaments in school year 2018-19.
In order to operate these programs with excellence, a new position has been added, Junior High and Middle School Athletic Director. After a thorough search, Gregg Fanning has been selected to lead this important part of the ministry. Fanning has served as a PE/Health Teacher for the last five years, including the last three years in the Warren Central School District. He holds his Professional Educator’s License in PE, and also holds a Master's Degree in Athletic Administration. Fanning played collegiate basketball at Illinois Valley CC, and has spent the last two years at Traders Point, assisting in the Varsity Basketball Program.
With the addition of the Junior High and Middle School Athletic Director, Adam Stevenson has moved into the position of High School Athletic Director, as well as Director of Football Operations/Head Varsity Football Coach for the Traders Point Christian High School Knights. Coach Stevenson has served as the Athletic Director at Traders Point for the past four years, overseeing admission into the IHSAA, record participation numbers at all school levels, and the completion of Witham Field at Knights Stadium, which opened last year. Coach Stevenson was a three-year starter in both baseball and football at Hamilton Southeastern HS, before a successful career as a running back at Hanover College, where he rushed for over 1100 yards as a Senior, and was named Team MVP, Team Captain, and All-Conference his senior year. Following his graduation he spent two years as Hanover College’s Running backs coach, while he earned his teaching degree. Stevenson then spent six years as an assistant coach at Fishers HS, where he helped build a brand new program into a team that won the 5A State Championship in 2010. During his time at Fishers he was the Head JV Coach for four years, including an undefeated 9-0 season in 2012. He also coached the running backs, and was named Offensive Coordinator before leaving for Traders Point.
“Athletics can be a key component in the growth of character traits such as perseverance, humility, and discipline. As a Christian school we believe it is part of training the whole student-athlete in mind, body, and spirit. We feel blessed by the leaders God is bringing to our campus and the way our financial supporters are stepping up to provide us incredible resources for the programs to be successful.” said Ron Evans, Head of School at TPCS.
Last month, TPCS also announced the hiring of Peter Lucht, who will lead the inaugural TPCHS Knights Boys Soccer program. “Peter Lucht brings a strong level of coaching and teaching experience to Traders Point,” said Athletic Director, Adam Stevenson. “We are extremely pleased to have Coach Lucht lead our new high school boys soccer program as well as direct boys soccer school-wide and join our high school faculty this fall.”
Witham Health Services continues to support TPCS athletics beyond a significant sponsorship and the naming of the new turf field. Witham also recently announced they are providing a strength and conditioning coach for all high school athletes beginning fall 2017, as well as, athletic training for all programs grades 5 through 12 beginning this June. Future plans include adding a sports medicine physician.
The mission of TPCS is to challenge and educate students within the framework of a biblical worldview while leading them to a personal relationship and transformed life through Jesus Christ. These changes will move Traders Point forward in our athletics department to see our student athletes be prepared and equipped to impact the world for Christ.
