Teacher Externship Opportunity

Hands-on Agriculture Education Externship for Educators

Want to find ways to incorporate a school garden, visits to local farms, or learning about livestock into your classes?

This on-farm experience is designed to empower educators to carry out project-based agriculture, food, and natural resources education (AFNRE) in the classroom. Learn about an exciting new sustainable agriculture curriculum, engage in activities that relate to school gardens and science, and reflect on how these activities could fit into your teaching. This is an opportunity to learn from your local agricultural community and connect students with food and how it is produced. Plan to be outdoors and dress for the weather. We are applying for SCECH credits for this event, the cost of which will be covered.

Two stand alone dates and locations:

1. Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center in Chatham, Michigan - June 17, 2021

2. Waishkey Bay Farm in Brimley, Michigan - August 10, 2021

** Each event will run from 9:30 am until 3:30 pm.

** Lunch will be provided. Please bring your own drinks and snacks.

** Travel reimbursements and stipends may be available.

COVID-19 Update

We are planning for an in-person program in June. However, we continue to monitor the evolution of the pandemic and how this might impact the event. We will decide as to whether it is necessary to postpone or change the format of the event prior to June. This decision will be based on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recommendations/guidelines from MSU, the State of Michigan, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local Health Department. You will be contacted regarding any changes or updates through the email you use to register.
