Starside's Book Fair is finally here!
The Book Fair is here!
Dec.1 - Dec.8, 2021
PTA is graciously supporting the students at Starside by giving each student a $5.00 gift certificate. The certificate is to be spent at the book fair! The certificate is kept with the cash registers as each student spends it. Can I have a big shout-out to Starside’s PTA!
Below is the following link to the Scholastic Book Fair home page, where you will find information about 3 ways to share the Book Fair with Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and anyone else! and an event option to visit the Book Fair in the Evening with your Family. Books make a great gift – for your child’s teacher or anyone! You can give books to classrooms or others by emailing me and I will help you with a certificate, by adding money to your student’s E-Wallet account, or by sending a check or cash with your child.

5th Grade Winter Band Concert
When: December 7
Where: LTMS Gym
Students need to be at LTMS no later than 6:15 pm. Please leave all instrument cases in your car! Kids should show up to the gym with their yellow band book and their instruments already put together.
This is a combined concert with the Starside Elementary School 5th grade beginning band and the LTMS 6th grade beginning band. This concert will last 20 minutes!
Immediately following our performance, please exit the building immediately. The LTMS 7th/8th-grade concert will start at 7 pm following our performance.
LTMS Concert Protocol: All band families are welcome to attend the concert!!!! However, students and audience members are required to wear a mask inside LTMS!
I am excited for you to hear your young musicians on our upcoming Winter Band Concert! It is a dress-up (Look nice) concert. I would prefer students not wear shorts, athletic attire, or t-shirts. Please do not go out and purchase new clothes just for this, but students need to dress nice. Christmas sweaters, festive outfits are encouraged!
Since this is a holiday, band students may wear Santa Hats, Reindeer antlers, Rudolph Noses, and Elf Ears! I want the kids to have fun!
Decorating Instruments: Kids are fine hanging ornaments onto their instruments, using tinsel, having Christmas Lights on instruments, etc... use tape! Do not use glue as it will damage the instruments.
I am very proud of your band students and look forward to seeing you at our concert!
Thanks,
Rob Foster
SE/LTMS Band Director

WARM UP with new books!
Tired of reading the same books over and over?
If so, please take part in our book swap by having your family go through your books at home. Send in gently used books and your student can swap them out by choosing fresh new titles. This is a great way to update home libraries and to get prepared to stay warm this winter by reading your new books!
Please join us for shopping to exchange your books
on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 15th from 3:00-3:45 p.m.
or the morning of Thursday, December 16th from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Reminder of Student Needs
- Coats: Weather changes mean coat weather - hopefully not left in lost & found!
- Water Bottle: Please remember to send a water bottle each day. Did you know that dehydration is a major cause of headaches, stomachaches, and lethargy?
- Extra Clothes: Please send an extra change of clothes for ALL students (5th graders spill too) to keep in their locker/ backpack.
- Extra Mask: Please send an extra mask (or two!) in your child’s backpack each day. Masks ARE still required at the elementary level and we've seen a large increase in kids asking for new masks. Some of this may be related to wanting a new or different kind of mask. If you have cloth masks at home, please wash and re-use them!
As Always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Community Service
Community service hours should be tallied from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Attached you will find a form for tracking service hours. All service hours are due no later than Monday, April 4th this school year.
The definition of service under the President’s Volunteer Service Award program includes any activity that has a significant impact on meeting the needs of the community. Services that are paid for or carried out for a family member do not count towards service hours. Some examples of services include helping with community organizations, school-based programs, scouting services, or any effort to help others.
Students are responsible for keeping track of ALL of their community service hours including hours completed at Starside such as Comet Guard. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at Starside at 667-6270 ext. 2196 or e-mail me at mmispagel@usd232.org. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
McKenzi Mispagel
