Digital Citizenship
A Parent's Guide
What is digital citizenship?
Common Sense Media defines digital citizenship as, "The ability to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in the digital world." It includes things such as: privacy and security, digital footprint, internet safety, relationships, ethical use of material, and more. Digital citizenship is the foundation of a healthy digital experience.
An ounce of prevention....
Simple things like having devices plugged in an adult's room, parental controls, and a family media agreement tailored to your family can go a long way in preventing problems.
Be smart, stay safe
Educating yourself and your child is the best way to keep everyone safe. Have safety conversations regularly, not just one time. Make connections to the physical world whenever possible to help make learning stick.
Digital Footprint
Probably a more accurate term is digital tattoo. Things said and done online today will likely last forever.
