Return to Learn Stage 3

Yesterday you received a newsletter from Elmwood describing Stage 3 of our Return to Learn procedures. Please closely review this document as it includes procedures for arrival/dismissal, health and safety guidelines, and schedules. You will continue to receive more updates from Elmwood and your child's teacher as we approach the week of January 25th.

You should have also received your child's placement in either AM, PM, or Online yesterday afternoon. At this time, all online students will participate in the PM session of instruction. Our staff members are so excited to enter in this next phase of learning!

Kindergarten Preview '21

Kindergarten Preview will be in March, 2021! We want to be sure that we have every student’s name in order for materials to be sent prior to that date. If you have a child who will be five (5) years old ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 or if you have a neighbor with a child who will be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2021, please call the Elmwood School Office 630-420-6341. Also, if you have a child attending another Kindergarten program who will be starting First Grade at Elmwood in Fall 2021, please notify us as soon as possible. This information is vital for our planning.

Kane County Cougars Reading Club

Dear Elmwood families:

Our school will once again be participating in the Cougars Reading Club, a reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars baseball team. Your child will have the opportunity to improve his or her reading skills while earning a ticket to a Cougar game, a Cougars drawstring bag, a free hot dog and drink to enjoy during the game.

WHEN: 8 weeks: 1/18 - 3/5

HOW: Your child needs to read 1 HOUR PER WEEK.

RECORD PROGRESS: Click here for a form you can use to track reading.

REPORT READING: At the end of 8 weeks (March 5th) please use this Google Form to report your student's reading. There is no need to send any paperwork into school.

REWARD: Students who have read and reported their reading hours will receive a free ticket to a Kane County Cougars baseball game (note: dates still TBD as they don't have a schedule for 2021 yet.). Students will also receive a drawstring bag, hot dog, and drink at that game.

Medication Drop Off

If your child is attending in-person instruction and requires medication during the school day, you may drop off their medication at our nurses' office next week between the hours of 8 a.m.-3 p.m. If you have medication to drop off, please plan to do that before your child's first day of in-person instruction.

Home & School Shout Out for December

Last month’s special Shout Out from Home & School goes to the entire Elmwood Family Community for the incredible participation in the Manna Gift Card Program! This year-end giving program was the most generous and successful one ever in Elmwood history! Special recognition goes to our amazing Manna Team: Catie Starr and Katharine Furby! This year certainly has been unique, and they were still able to keep up this special tradition by going the extra mile and navigating through all the new logistics. As the cherry on top, Katharine also quickly organized a very simple and heartfelt student thank you to teachers via Zoom on the last day before break. Thank you to everyone for your support and for making year end gifts for teachers and staff so easy!

Hearts for Seniors: SFCP with Inside Out Club

Together with Inside Out Club, we are sharing our hearts with seniors in a schoolwide service project to benefit seniors served by Meals on Wheels! Meals on Wheels has seen an over 40% increase in the number of seniors needing meals, and we are collecting nonperishable items to help with this increased need. Examples of items to donate:

  • Tea bags

  • Hand lotion

  • Nut-free Granola bars

  • Chapstick

  • Tissues

Bins will be outside Elmwood Door 1 beginning on Monday, January 11th!

We are also encouraging students in Grades K - 2 to decorate a lunch bag, and students in Grades 3 - 5 to decorate a door hanger for seniors to hang on their doors this Valentine’s Day. Kits will be outside beginning on Monday and ready to be picked up and completed! Check out the flyer here, visit www.insideoutclub.org, and email elmwoodsfcp@gmail.com with any questions!
