from Mike & J-
Goals & Collective Efficacy
As you may recall, we asked that each teacher turn in goals about the percentage of students to be performing at proficiency levels in literacy and math. We then turned that into our collective goal as an elementary division. We reviewed our progress at midyear as an elementary team this past week together, and the progress toward the goals caught our attention. We ask that you review the goals set as part of your midyear review, with the support and guidance to help your teachers meet their goals.
Collaborative Culture
Every time we gather as an elementary division, the sharing and exchange of ideas is rich and powerful. The volume and quality of positive practices taking place across our team is awe-inspiring and can be, quite-frankly, overwhelming as we work to filter out the key takeaways that can potentially help us to solve a challenge we are currently working on back at our own building. This is a healthy struggle as we embrace a culture of continuous improvement, but we have to also caution against the impulse to add or revise what currently do based upon what is shared by our peers. As the leader in your school, you have to be the filter while seeking to capitalize on those shared practices that can move your team forward.
This same exchange of ideas and strategies in the name of continuous improvement is vital to the success of our grade-level teams and individual teachers. Our challenge is to create the structure, platform, and expectation of this collaboration within grade-level teams and even vertically between grades. Thank you for continually challenging your teams to work closely together to provide our students with a high-quality experience along with a curriculum that is guaranteed and viable, regardless of which classroom teacher they are assigned in the fall.
Busy schedules next week
Mike and J are both heavy in interviews next week, so we will have limited availability for site visits and response times may be delayed when you reach out. We both appreciate your support as we go through the important process of bringing new leaders into our system.
Action Items & Calendar
ACTION REQUESTED
Student Teacher Packets
From Liz Cooper: It is that time of year when many of our sites are welcoming spring student teachers into our school community. We appreciate your efforts to ensure our student teachers have the best experience that will prepare them for a classroom of their own. In addition, we hope that their positive experiences will lead to them choosing us when applying for positions in the future.
As placements occur between the universities and the sites, we need your assistance to ensure HR has the name and information of every student teacher placement. Please ensure your student teachers receive this packet, complete, and return to Human Resources ideally prior to their first day with students, but definitely within a week of placement. Chelsea Thompson, our HR Certified Employment Analyst assists in collecting, processing and updating our student teacher spreadsheet. Your assistance is vital to ensure we are tracking all student teacher placements- as we also use this information when tracking student teachers who get hired in our district and much more.
Kindergarten Registration
From Missy Riley: Please find the attached link for Kindergarten Registration and Enrollment dates, times and information. Please remember that your PAT Liaison is happy to help with sharing information and co-facilitation duties that day. You might want to check with them on their availability if you’d like their help. J has asked that you choose a date between March 2nd through March 12th, unless you would like to combine it with your regularly scheduled March K-Prep that might fall outside of those dates. I’ll look forward to receiving your information so we can help spread the word.
