Stetson Hills School Information and Upcoming Events

Stallion Families,

Thank you for a very successful first 2 weeks of school! We are off to a fantastic start and the students are actively engaged in learning each day. We hope your kids have come home from school excited at the end of the day and looking forward to the new learning and adventures they will have this year. We appreciate your patience in keeping students and staff safe during arrival and dismissal times, as we make sure that all new Stallion families know and understand our procedures.

We are excited that volunteers are allowed back on campus this year. I know many teachers have sent home volunteer information in their beginning of the year packets. If you have not seen volunteer information and you'd like to volunteer, reach out to your child's teacher. We can't wait to see you back on campus and in our classrooms!

With Stallion Pride,

Mrs. Dyer-Hurdon

Staff Spotlight - Kindergarten

Our Staff Spotlight this month is our Kindergarten team! This amazing group of teachers has taught a collective 99 years! They hold 4 Bachelor's degrees, 2 Master's degrees, 2 reading endorsements, 1 English Language Learner endorsement, and 1 gifted endorsement. Their strengths are patience, creating nurturing environments in their classrooms, having innovated rooms, and instilling a LOVE for learning in their students.

Virtual Curriculum Information

All curriculum information and staff presentations on curriculum will be uploaded to teacher websites on August 15th! Please take a few minutes next week to watch the curriculum information for your child(ren)'s classes to learn more about the standards that will be covered in each of the content areas. Any questions can be answered by your classroom teachers!

From the Desk of Mr. Warner - School Safety

DVUSD Parents & Guardians,

As we welcome students back to school, we want to share with you our efforts to keep our campuses safe for our students, staff, and visitors. All of our campuses operate under individualized Emergency Response Plans (ERP). The ERPs give guidance to our campus administrators for emergency scenarios. All of our campus administrators received enhanced training on the ERPs this summer which included tabletop scenarios. The ERPs also lay out the frequency of our evacuation (fire drill), lockdown and lockout drills. Drills may occur at any time during the school day, including instructional and non-instructional times such as lunch, recess or before school and after school drop off. Increased communication regarding drills will occur. Our District Office will also initiate unannounced drills during the school year at various school sites.

Furthermore, a number of DVUSD staff have completed the ALICE “train the trainer” course and will bring this nationally-recognized “sudden violent confrontation” training to our school sites throughout the year. Other efforts include continuing to “harden” our physical sites, monitoring student communication on District servers, placing wellness counselors or social workers on many of our campuses, and ensuring that sworn police officers are assigned fulltime to our high schools and middle schools.

School safety is a shared responsibility between our schools and community. Please emphasize to your student that if they hear or see anything (online or in person) that makes them feel even the slightest bit uncomfortable in regards to school safety, they should report it immediately. We are hopeful that, together, we can make this our best year ever.

Kind Regards,

Scott Warner

Director of School Operations and Athletics

Deer Valley Unified School District

August Fire Drill

We completed our first fire drill (evacuation drill) yesterday, August 10th. The students did a fantastic job! We will complete fire drills at minimum once per month for the remainder of the school year.

Keep the Pace

At Stetson Hills, we Keep the Pace! Students will learn about the 3 areas of PACE during the first week of school:

  • Respectful
  • Responsible
  • Safe

When Stallions are caught Keeping the Pace they will be rewarded with a PACE Ticket. Tickets are drawn each Friday and names are announced on morning announcements. PACE winners then come down to grab a prize from Mrs. Dyer and Mrs. Medlock. Our first drawing is Friday, August 12th! Thank you to all of our Stallions who work hard to be Respectful, Responsible and Safe daily.

Reminder: Parking Lot Procedures

Our parking lot is a very busy place before and after school! In order to help ensure that traffic flows as smoothly as possible, please follow the parking lot procedures:

Morning Procedures

Drop off begins at 8:30. Students are dropped off on the blue curb in the morning. For students in grades 1-8, please pull ALL the way forward along the blue curb toward the field and far bike rack. This allows more cars to fit in behind you. If you would like to park and walk your child to the gate, please use the crossing guard located at the front office crosswalk.

Kindergarten morning drop off is the first section of the blue curb located by the kindergarten gate. All other grade levels should use the interior lane to go around kindergarten drop off and then proceed to the blue curb.

Afternoon Procedures

Kindergarten will be dismissed at 3:20. Kindergarten parents may start to line up in the parking lot at 3:10. Kindergarten students who are being picked up in the parking lot will be escorted by the kindergarten teachers to the parent pick up area. Please pull ALL the way forward and the teachers will bring your children to your car. Make sure to have their name tag (given to you by the teachers) in your window for quick and easy dismissal. Kindergarten students that have an older sibling or take the bus home will remain in a kindergarten classroom with a teacher until regular dismissal at 3:30. Siblings may pick their kindergarten sibling up from the kindergarten classrooms at 3:30.

Students in grades 1-8 will all be dismissed at 3:30 this year. There will not be staggered dismissal for these grade levels. Parents picking up in the front parking lot should arrive no earlier than 3:25 in order to allow kindergarten parents to pick up and exit the parking lot first.

When picking up your child from the front parking lot, please pull ALL the way forward on the blue curb. Staff members will direct your children to walk on the sidewalk to meet you at your vehicle. Please remain in your vehicle at all times when you are along the blue curb.

New this year: If you wish to park in the parking lot and meet your child at the gate, you may do so. You must use the crossing guard who will be located at the front office crosswalk.

Special Areas

Starting this school year, the specials rotation will look a bit different. In the past, students have followed a Monday-Friday schedule. We noticed that this causes students to miss certain classes more often if they fall on a holiday. This year, we will change to a 5 day rotation for specials. This means that if there is a holiday on a Day 1 for example, the next day becomes Day 1 instead.
