FPS ECSE December Update

Longfellow ECSE, Agassiz ECSE

COVID Updates

All buildings and programs in Fargo Public Schools, Early Childhood Special Education included, have begun to send Weekly COVID numbers each Friday. It is our hope that you find these notifications helpful in staying informed about the current COVID situation in our schools and community. The good news is that over the last few weeks ECSE is seeing a downward trend and lower numbers overall. This downward trend is a direct result of mask wearing, good hand hygiene and following quarantine protocols. Your role in supporting us with these tasks has been so incredibly helpful.

I also want to let families know that our school staff now have opportunities to get weekly COVID-19 Rapid tests and are encouraged to do so. The purpose of this is to identify non-symptomatic individuals and attempt to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Reminder: No School from Thursday December 24th through January 1st.

Fargo Public Schools and Early Childhood Special Education will be closed from Thursday December 24, 2020 through January 1, 2021. Classes will resume on Monday January 4, 2021

Spirit Week!!!!

ECSE staff and students had a great Spirit Week this week with several fun dress up days. Our unit of study this week in our Creative Curriculum is clothing, so we thought it was a wonderful opportunity to connect our learning to some very fun activities. We hope your children had fun celebrating Spirit week! I know our staff sure did.

Message from Donna Johnson, Administrator for the Early Childhood Special Education Program

Hello ECSE Families,

It is hard to believe that we have only a few days of school left until we go on Winter Break and the end of 2020. It sure has been an interesting and challenging beginning to our school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Early Childhood program could not have navigated these crazy times without your support. As a parent group, you have demonstrated an incredible amount of flexibility, patience and grace and for that myself and the entire ECSE program staff are so very grateful.

You have done all that we have asked and so much more: sent masked for your children, shifted your schedules between 2 day a week and 4 day a week preschool, kept your children home when they were sick, picked up your children when we called and freely shared close contact information from daycare, home and the community. I have had to call some of you in the evenings ( and sometimes quite a bit later than I would have liked) to let you know about exposure and quarantining and you have been nothing but gracious and understanding. You have been engaging with teachers via See Saw and have been such active participants in your children’s learning.

Even though we are all dealing with the pandemic and there have been schedule changes, staff absences, quarantines and moves to distance learning, our young students have been amazing. They’ve been quick to learn routines and have established great trusting relationships with the teachers, therapists and paraeducators in the classrooms. They continue to grow and progress each day and we are able to witness and celebrate the growth. All of us at ECSE have chosen this profession because we truly want to make a difference in children’s lives and we are so blessed to have you all as partners on this journey.

I wish you all a restful, peaceful and joyous winter break. I hope you and your families stay safe and healthy. The whole ECSE team looks forward to seeing our students back on January 4th and are excited to see what 2021 has in store for all of us.

Thanks for all you do!
