FLCS Summer Reading Program

Summer 2016

Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Students in kindergarten and 1st grade presently do not have email accounts through Google and will have an alternative way of submitting what they have read. Therefore, students in these two grades should fill out the Google Form provided on the newsletter and on the website and their responses will be uploaded to the padlet displaying what they have read!

Summer Reading Program Montello School District

Grades 4&5 Pilot Checkout Program

On May 31st, students in several grades will be able to check out up to four (4) books for reading at home over the summer. Research has shown that reading over the summer has proven to help students maintain their literacy skills. Here at the dates when students will be able to come back to the Montello School District Library Media Center to return old books and check out ten new ones:

  • Thursday, June 21st, 3-4 P.M.
  • Wednesday July 19th, 3-4 P.M.
  • Tuesday, August 16th, 3-4 P.M.

It is also encouraged to check out at least two (2) nonfiction books out of the ten selected. Students should be reading widely and exploring many genres beyond fiction. Here is a list of recommended subject areas:

  • Biographies about scientists and inventors
  • Informative texts (i.e. stars and constellations, animals, experiments, mathematics)
  • Poetry
  • Health and wellness
  • Geography and History

This will allow your child an opportunity to read twelve (12) books over the summer and attempt to reverse the summer slide!
