It was the spring of 1842 when Mexican leaders heard of the actions of the Lamar administration. Mexican leaders started launching raids and 700 Mexican forces into to Texas. Forces were lead into Texas by their leader Rafael Vazquez. General Vazquez led 700 Mexican troops into Texas. 700 soldiers invaded San Antonio, Goliad, Refugio, and Victoria. However General Vazquez and the troops returned to Mexico.
Many Texans panicked when Mexican forces were invading Texas. They wanted to attack Austin, president Houston ordered that the government archives should be withdrawn from the capital immediately.
Austin residents disagreed with this move. They thought it would mean that the capital would be moved back to Houston. Led by Angelina Eberly, the troops fired at officials that were loading documents on to the wagon.
On September 1842, Mexico invaded Texas again. General Adrian Woll and 1,400 Mexican troops captured San Antonio.
