Summer Work & Planning at LR
We use the summer as the time to do much needed planning for the following school year so the following information below may be helpful to keep you informed:
Placement Notification for 2017-18:
As of now the district has planned to open the parent portal for 2017-18 student placements to be seen on Friday, August 25th. This is when you should be able to log into the portal and view your child's schedule and teachers for the 2017-18 school year. If this date changes the district will send out notification. If you currently do not have access to the parent portal it is important that you contact our main office to request your access information because most communication home now is through the portal or electronic communication. Since most communication is now electronic it is also very important to always keep your contact information and emergency contacts updated in the portal so that you can receive prompt alerts and communications.
Support Services Notification for 2017-18:
Notification will be sent home through letter notification prior to the August 25th date for any students identified and invited to participate in Basic Skills, Enrichment, or the Gifted and talented programs.
**Please note that the district's procedures for Enrichment and Gifted and Talented program identification has changed for 2017-18. In the past Grade 4 students receiving either of those services just moved up into Grade 5 to also receive them with no re-identification. Starting with the 2017-18 school year re-identification will take place each year including from Grade 4 to Grade 5. The identification process will include analyzing multiple measures to identify the top 5% for the Grade 5 Gifted and talented program and next 5% for the pull-out Enrichment programs. This is the same process that took place with students moving from Grade 3 to 4.

Counselor News:
With the end of the 2016-2017 school year only three weeks away, I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone –Mr. Jerabek, Mrs. Olsen, all the Lloyd Road teachers and staff, Parents and Guardians, and the very best 4th and 5th grade students! The past few months at Lloyd Road have been a wonderful experience! Everyone welcomed me with open arms and for that, I am eternally grateful. I have learned so much working here and the experiences that I have gained will always hold a special place in my heart.
Mr. Jerabek, Mrs. Olsen, Teachers, and Staff –Thank you for your support, guidance, kindness, and for showing me what true dedication and passion is. The students at Lloyd Road are blessed to have each and every one of you in their lives!
Parents and Guardians –Thank you for allowing me to work with your children. It is because of your love and support that your children are able to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. You make my job, one that I love and am very passionate about, an easy one. I would not be able to do what I do without you!
The Very Best 4th and 5th Grade Students –Thank you for being YOU! Each and every single one of you is special. You will all do great things, never give up on your dreams! As Dr. Seuss would say: “Don’t give up. I believe in you all. A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
Wishing you all a wonderful and relaxing summer!
With Sincere Thanks,

Trebles Five Performance
Our TREBLES FIVE performances were a great success! Our talented group of 75 fifth graders shared their singing, dancing, and instrumental skills for our two school assemblies as well as an evening performance for families, friends, and our community. We worked hard to prepare for our show and received three standing ovations which allowed us to sing three encores for our audience during our evening performance on May 24th, 2017.
We are looking forward to performing at BARNES & NOBLE in Holmdel at the Holmdel Commons on June 8th at 6:30 p.m., and a visit to CHEEBURGER CHEEBURGER following our performance at B&N.
Please come and join us! Congratulations Trebles Five on another successful year and stellar show!

Nurse's Corner:
Hey Moms & Dads! Not all sun protection comes in a bottle. there are lots of ways to protect your child's skin all year long. Here are five tips you can try:
1. Hide and Seek: UV rays are strongest and most harmful midday, so its best ot plan indoor activities then. If this is not possible, seek shade under a tree, an umbrella or a pop-up tent. Use these options to prevent sunburn, not to seek relief once it's happened.
2. Cover'em Up: Clothing that covers your child's skin helps protect against UV rays. Although a long-sleeved shirt and long pants with a tight weave are best, they aren't always practical. A T-shirt, long shorts or a beach cover-up are good choices, too - but it's wise to double up on protection by applying sunscreen or keeping your child in the shade when possible.
3. Get a Hat: Hats that shade the face, scalp, ears, and neck are easy to use and give great protection. Baseball caps are popular among kids but they don't protect their ears and neck. If your child chooses a cap, be sure to protect exposed areas with sunscreen.
4. Shades Are Cool: And they protect your child's eyes from UV rays, which can lead to cataracts later in life. Look for sunglasses that wrap around and block as close to 100% of both UVA and UVB rays as possible.
5. Rub on Sunscreen: Use sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and UVA/UVB protection every time your child goes outside. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outdoors. Note that sunscreen does not protect your child completely - it reduces damage from UV, but does not eliminate it. Therefore, try to limit too much sun exposure by using other "choose your cover" methods, or by limiting exposure to sun.
Have a great summer!
Thank You LR PTO!
