2019 Bluebonnet Readers
The Texas Bluebonnet Reading Program
is a unique program that encourages reading for pleasure and is aimed at students in grades 3-6. Each year, 20 books are chosen as the “Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List” by the TBA (Texas Bluebonnet Association) selection committee. If students read a minimum of five books from the current master list (or have the books read aloud to them), they have the opportunity to vote for their favorite title during the month of January each year. The author of the book receiving the most votes statewide is declared the winner of the Texas Bluebonnet Award.
During the last week in January, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who read at least 5 of the books on the Texas Bluebonnet Reading List were eligible to vote for their favorite book. Students also received Bluebonnet prizes that included a color changing cup, pencil, eraser, and bookmark. The votes were sent to the state Bluebonnet committee where they were added to the state wide totals. This year's Encino Park Elementary winner as chosen by the 140 students was Wedgie and Gizmo by Suzanne Selfors. The Texas state winner was Sergeant Reckless. Congratulation and thank you for all the participants in this wonderful program that encourages reading books for pleasure!Fairy Tale Rodeo
