Clubs & Activities during GMAS

Please make sure you notify your students and parents that we will not have any before or after school clubs or activities during GMAS testing.

Tuesday, February 16th Visitor

Dr. Eli Welch, principal of Shiloh MS, will visit JMS Tuesday afternoon. We are collaborating and visiting each other's schools. We will visit a variety of classrooms and curriculum planning sessions. When we enter the classroom, please continue teaching and learning.

Wednesday, February 17th Visitors

We are hosting the executives from Desire to Learn (D2L). We are visiting identified classrooms to showcase the use of eClass during our daily instruction. We will have approximately six individuals including Dr. Tatum, Tricia Kennedy, and Sheri Gilbert.

Book Fair

Teacher preview with snacks will be held this Thursday in the media center from 12:45 - 4:45 PM. The schedule is posted on the eClass JMS Training Page. Students can begin purchasing items on February 19, 2016.

SEI Surveys

Mr. Keag has shared information the administration of the Student Engagement Inventories for the Spring 2016. This is part of our whole school evaluation. Please make sure the students are engaged and responding. We will administer this survey during homeroom on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Information for administration is posted on the content page (SEI Surveys) found on the JMS Training Page.

Positive Outcomes

Friday, a few classrooms were having Class Dojo celebrations based on student points. The students who did not earn the Class Dojo celebration were doing a lesson from: Teaching the Social Skills of Academic Interaction. This is a great way to reteach the expectations of group work, partner work, or appropriate class expectations. The book is available for check out in the media center. The lessons are loaded on the JMS Google Drive under Corwin Social Skills. If you need help with this resource, please let us know.

Progress Reports

We are scheduled to send home progress reports on Friday, February 19, 2016. Please make sure your grades are up to date no later than Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Thanks!

Book & Video Club

We will have our first informational meeting to set up future meeting dates/times on Wednesday immediately following bus call. Books are available for check out in the media center. Once all the books are checked out, all the spots are filled. We currently have approximately five more spots available! We are meeting in the principal's conference room following buses on Wednesday.

Interim Testing

Please plan your lessons to accommodate for the limited use of laptops during interim testing. Mr. Keag is posting a schedule to include the delivery of laptops to testing rooms, testing dates, subject tests, and pick up of laptops. Please check JMS Training Page for the schedule.

The test are designed for one class period. Most middle schools have 55 minute classes which is less than our 75 minutes periods. We recommend you meeting your homeroom and classes in the lab on your assigned day. This will allow you to turn on the computers, distribute the computers, assign seats, etc. Arriving early to the lab will allow you some time for any technical needs.

Black History Month

Mrs. Armstrong, Mr. Keag, and Mrs. Moore have developed a variety of activities for our students. When students are in the media center, they can use their device to scan a QR Code and will be directed to new learning. We also have a daily question. In addition, students will have activities in eClass each week! Students who complete the activities will be entered for a drawing to win a book. The activities explore the different resources we have using the online research tools. Please encourage your students to participate!

Team Recognition Program

Begin thinking about who you would like to recognize!

Each month, we will recognize team members who exhibit the pillars of Jordan MS: Community, Leadership, and Excellence! Teams can submit up to three names each month. Please include a brief narrative describing how the team member exemplified community, leadership, or excellence. We will celebrate during our vertical team meetings on Fridays!
