Family Charger News
October 2020
Message from Mrs. Haugen
Charger Family,
We are already into October! Is there anyone else wondering WHAT HAPPENED TO SEPTEMBER?
Things in school are moving right along! Our students have continued to do incredibly well with their focus and learning. Teachers are challenging our students with deeper thinking and development of new skills.
As you look at the calendar for October, you can see we have a full month planned.
Thank you for continuing to make sure that your child comes to school each day with a mask and a good night of rest. The masks have proven helpful in keeping the spread of germs down. When our students are rested, they are more focused and able to learn in the classroom.
Mrs. Haugen
Reminder about Birthday Treat
Please be sure that you notify your child's teacher if you plan to send in a special treat for a birthday. Whatever is sent must be individually wrapped (fruit snacks, little debbie cakes, chips, snack mix, etc).
Thank you for helping with this new guideline.
COVID Safety Updates
The district shared updates to our process of notification and clarification on contact tracing.
We continue to work hard at Moreau Heights to maintain a safe learning environment for our students and staff with multiple layers of protection.
- masking
- distancing of at least 3 feet
- sanitizing as students/staff enter/exit areas
- frequent sanitization of common areas and high touch surfaces
- plexiglass barriers when distancing is not possible
- screening temperatures when all student and staff enter the building
Our goal is to remain in-seat as long as possible and we are working hard to keep our learning environment safe for everyone.
Positive Case Notification
- The district launched a new COVID-19 Positive Case Tracker on our website on October 2nd. This tracker lists new positive cases and close contacts for the day and a history of positive cases since school began on August 24th, all broken down by building.
- We will continue to send notifications to families as new cases arise at Moreau Heights.
- The tracker will be updated daily by 6:30pm with any new cases for the day.
- If you do not have access to view new cases on the internet, or you have any questions about the history of positive cases within the district, please contact the Communications Department and we will provide you with a summary of new cases for the day (573-659-3018).
Contact Tracing:
- JC Schools conducts contact tracing for every positive case that occurs within the school environment (an individual who is symptomatic while on school property or within 48 hours of becoming symptomatic).
- After contact tracing has identified potential close contacts, a thorough investigation is conducted to determine which close contacts are considered at risk for transmission and should be quarantined. Variables include:
- Type and severity of symptoms exhibited by the positive case (such as cough/fever vs. headache or asymptomatic);
- Positioning of people relative to the positive case (individuals facing one another vs. individuals who never face one another);
- Any physical contact with the positive case (individuals who talk and frequently interact vs. individuals who never interact);
- Layers of protection in place (masks worn properly, barriers such as plexiglass, etc).
- After the investigation findings are reviewed and approved by the positive case’s local health department, the district notifies staff members or families of students identified as close contacts.

1. PTO will provide snacks and drinks for all classrooms.
2. Classroom teachers will manage activities.

Due to COVID restrictions, we will hold these over the phone or via google meet. Teachers will be in touch to schedule a time for your conference so you can plan for a focused conversation.

Session for Parents - The Power of Parenting Without Anger
The virtual sessions have continued with Marty Huitt, from Cornerstones of Care. The focus of the session I am sharing below is parenting without anger.
We all have feelings and emotions. As parents, we are often balancing our own AND those of others in our home. When we have additional stressors and such, the challenges can exceed our ability to manage our emotions. This session provides some great tips for parents to use to manage those feelings, especially when things are hard.
