Parent Newsletter: September 14th
A Note From the Principal
Dear East Middle School Students, Parents, and Guardians:
Out of the mouths of babes... I have to share a comment a student made, just a few hours ago, as he was walking out of the volleyball game. He said, "Wow, Mrs. Campbell, I just love this school!" Well, young sir, we feel the same way!
Our first week of NWEA testing has gone off relatively easily, and hopefully students haven't felt much anxiety or stress over taking these assessments. We thank you for all the help you have given at home to make sure that chromebooks are ready to go. Our 8th grader students and teachers have demonstrated a lot of team work in sharing the chromebooks that each teacher has housed in their classrooms.
Our fall sports teams are in full gear, too. All of our student athletes have been putting in much time and effort to prepare for their games.
This Friday, you might hear your student talk about the Character Counts Store. All staff have Character Counts Cards that they pass out, to students, during the day when they see students showing their positive lifeskills such as: respect, effort, honesty, kindness, empathy, and many other skills that we, as adults, practice in our daily lives. On Friday, students are able to "cash" in their Character Counts Cards during lunch by "purchasing" items from the store. Last year, students were able to pick out a healthy snack using their cards. This year, we are expanding the store to include certificates like:
- eat lunch with your favorite teacher or principal
- $1.50 off the concession stand at games and events
- get a game of basketball during advisory with Mr. Inman and a friend
- sneak to the front of the lunch line
It is exciting to roll this out to students and look forward to finding more ways to expand the store offerings. Mr. Inman and other staff have ideas up their sleeves that are being tossed around, so more information will be shared with students as the semester moves along.
Again, we look forward to partnering with you as we embark on this middle school journey together!
Sincerely,
Katie Campbell

Welcome to EMS! Morning and Afternoon Procedures
We will begin to welcome students into the building starting at 7:10 AM.
- When 8th and 7th grade enter, they be ushered into the gym. 8th grade will sit on one side of the gym, and 7th grade will sit on the other. Teachers are in the gym to help supervise and dismiss students.
- When 6th grade students enter, Team 6A will be ushered to the auxiliary gym, while Team 6B will be ushered to the carpeted area in the pod. Students are supervised in their respective areas.
- Students who want breakfast will report to the cafeteria.
- There are teacher supervisors in the hallways to help direct traffic.
- If a student receives a pass from the teacher to visit in the morning, he/ she will be able to report directly to their teacher once entering the building.
- Students also have access to the library both before and after school.
Our first bell rings at 7:25, and students are in a staggered dismissal to ensure that hallways are relatively clear. This will give students 10 minutes of time to get to their lockers, unpack, use the restroom and then report to their first hour by 7:35AM.
Our EMS students have done an excellent job over the last two weeks! Keep up the great work!
