News from Eli Terry
A Peek Inside the Week - June 15th, 2023
Dear Eli Terry Families...
As our summer begins, we would like to express how grateful we are to be leading such an amazing community of students, parents & staff. It has been a truly amazing year! We are so proud of all of the achievements and accomplishments of our students. These would not be possible without all of your support and dedication.
Reflecting on the past school year, we have had so many great memories and exciting events to look back on. We were able to enjoy many successful traditions such as our book fairs and family nights, our Math Night, a variety of different field trips, and SO many wonderful PTO events - picnics, paint nights, and of course the Fun Run! We were also excited to bring back Multicultural Night! Our students really enjoyed all of these activities.
Our year ended with a fantastic field day and our wonderful 5th grade promotion ceremony, filled with pride and celebration of student accomplishments. We are very proud of all of our Grade 5 students and will certainly miss them as they head off to Timothy Edwards.
Looking ahead, we have many exciting new initiatives that we are bringing to Eli Terry for the upcoming year. We will be introducing "Student Ambassadors" (a new student leadership opportunity) and rolling out a new reading curriculum in Kindergarten through Grade 2.
We are always focused on the improvement of our school in all aspects. We not only focus on academics, but we also focus on the whole child. In this upcoming year, we will emphasize the social & emotional learning of all of our students by explicitly teaching social-emotional skills using the RULER approach. This approach comes with a full curriculum that will be implemented school-wide and district-wide K-12. We believe that the social & emotional learning of a child significantly impacts their academic performance and sense of belonging. We are also continuing our goal for improvement in the area of attendance. It has been proven that students who arrive to school on time and are present everyday perform at a higher level. We had a high level of chronic absenteeism the past few school years and we are striving to make a significant improvement going forward. We are looking to you as parents and partners in your child’s education to continue helping us in this endeavor.
A special thanks to you, the parents who have contributed in ways small, large and unimaginable! Thank you for the partnership between home and school, which is so important. We appreciate all that you do each and every day for our school and our children!
Together, we’ve learned so much and have shared experiences that will remain in our hearts for years to come. The passion and strength within our community makes our school truly a special place for our children and a place that we are not only extremely proud to lead, but also one that we can call HOME.
Have a safe and fun filled summer! See you next year!
Warm Wishes,
Mr. Kenyon and Mrs. Hammer
P.S. One way to keep skills fresh over the summer is to practice! If any students would like to practice their writing skills by writing to Mrs. Hammer and sharing their summer adventures, she will happily read and respond to each and every one! (jhammer@swindsor.k12.ct.us)
