Maltby Messenger
October 10th Edition
~A message from the Principal~
Many of you signed up for conferences and some of you have yet to do so. Papers are coming home with confirmation of conferences for those of you who signed up and a requested time for those of you who have yet to sign up. If you need to change times, please call our main office and we will be happy to help you. Conferences are a time to meet together and work in support of your child. We always look forward to this time. Conferences are October 21-25, and school is dismissed at 12:55 PM.
October 15th, is the Great American Shake Out. We will conduct an earthquake drill. We will drop, cover and hold and practice what we would do in the event of an earthquake. I will explain to the students that this is a drill and we are practicing. In the event of a real earthquake we would rely on the emergency kit that you have provided for your child. If you are unable to do so, please contact our counselor, Mrs. Gronwall, and she can assist you.
Believe it or not, Veteran’s Day is fast approaching. Be thinking of Veterans you would like to invite to our assembly in November. Our Veteran’s Day assembly will be on November 8th at 1:25 PM in the gym. We encourage all Veterans to join us for a celebration!
There will be a school board meeting on Thursday, October 17th at Park Place Middle School. This is an opportunity to speak with board members and hear about upcoming events in the Monroe School District.
As we are waiting for/ or dropping off our children in the car pick up line, please remember to turn your car off. This is a no idle zone and we want clean air for all people. We appreciate your assistance with this.
Two book recommendations for this month are: For early readers:
“Leo the Late Bloomer,” by Robert Kraus. For young readers: “Alice the Fairy,” by David Shannon, and for intermediate readers, “The Apothecary,” by Maile Meloy.
Enjoy these beautiful fall days!
Sincerely,
Bonnie McKerney
NEXT WEEK IS AN 'A' SPECIALIST WEEK
Early Dismissal Fridays Continue
Idle Free Schools
Maltby Elementary has instituted a vehicle idling policy at the school. All persons operating vehicles at the school should adhere to the following guidelines:
- When waiting for students to be picked up, all engines should be shut off.
- All drivers should turn off engines when they arrive at school and when they expect to be parked for more than 10 seconds.
- If idling is necessary for temperature control, please restrict it to no more than 5 minutes.
We are implementing this policy to reduce the students' exposure to air toxins emitted in the exhaust of idling vehicles.
We encourage you to eliminate unnecessary idling not only at our school but anywhere you are waiting for more than 10 seconds. This simple change will improve the air our children breathe, as well as the air quality in our neighborhoods.
Thank you for your support...TURN YOUR KEY, BE IDLE FREE!!
Parking Lot Safety
- Please do not enter the bus lane in front of the school. This lane is for buses only; do not use this lane for dropping off or picking up students.
- Keep an eye out for students as you drive through the parking lot.
- Check behind you thoroughly before backing up.
- Please do not drive faster than 5 mph in the parking lot.
THANK YOU FOR KEEPING OUR PARKING LOT SAFE FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF.
PE Class Schedule
Pajama Drive
Here's what we need:
- Brand-new pajamas in all sizes, from newborn to adult.
- Pajamas must be complete sets - a top and bottom, or an appropriate nightgown.
- Pajamas for all seasons, but especially for the winter months.
- Pajamas can be sent to school with your child/dropped off in the school office.
- Pajama drive ends in November
Here's what Scholastic Books will do:
For each pair of pajamas, Scholastic will deliver a book to a child in need. They have pledged to donate 100,000 books. Let's help them reach that goal!
