SCS TREASURER’S OFFICE EARNS AUDITOR OF STATE AWARD WITH DISTINCTION
At yesterday’s Board of Education Meeting, State Auditor Regional Liaison Jake Altman recognized SCS Treasurer George Anagnostou and his team with the 2020 Auditor of State Award with Distinction. This award is presented to those school districts that receive a “clean” audit report, meaning the district’s annual financial audit did not contain findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit findings, or any questioned costs. Congratulations on earning this prestigious audit award from the State of Ohio!
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. MELANIE ROPCHOCK, EARLY LEARNING PRESCHOOL TEACHER
Mrs. Melanie Ropchock - or ‘Ms. Melanie’ to her preschool students - has taught in our District for seven years. She is part of our preschool staff at Chapman Elementary School. Ms. Melanie has earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Akron.
“The thing I love most about my job is that I have the opportunity to work with diverse learners. For many students this is their first experience with school and I enjoy watching them practice autonomy so they feel empowered as individuals. My students are kind, inclusive, and flexible. Watching them use language, creativity, and negotiating skills while assigning and taking on roles during dramatic play is inspiring. I appreciate having the opportunity to differentiate instruction and help my students practice resilience by trying again when faced with something new or challenging. I view working with our students as a privilege. I value the importance of our classroom being the first stop on each of their educational journeys,” said Ms. Melanie.
“I enjoy being part of our preschool team. We work together to differentiate instruction, as well as expectations, to ensure we are meeting the needs of all of our learners. We also share the same vision for our students: differences among the students are expected, accepted, accommodated, and celebrated as we all learn and grow together. We understand the impact we have on our students and strive to be role models. This impact is enhanced through the positive partnerships with our preschool families and with the preschool and Chapman staff and communities.”
Thank you Ms. Melanie for building strong foundations in our preschool students and preparing them for kindergarten! #WeAreStrongsville

Founder’s Day Program (Tues. Feb. 25) - "If Walls Could Talk: The General Store"
The Strongsville Historical Society invites you to our annual Founder's Day Program on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 7pm at Strongsville Old Town Hall, 18825 Royalton Rd. Every year the Strongsville Historical Society holds a Founder’s Day Program to continue its mission to discover, collect, record, preserve and interpret the history of the Strongsville, Ohio area through these programs that inspire, stimulate and educate the community. Join us in this endeavor.
This year's program, presented by Valerie Mattingley, is called "If Walls Could Talk: The General Store". The historic village has a general store that once served an out-of-the-way corner of Strongsville. Of course, there were other such stores scattered around. If those walls could talk, what would they tell us about life in such communities? Come hear what they provided...what they meant to the people they served, in the actual words of people who used the Olds General Store! Light refreshments will be provided at this free event. All are welcome!
The Strongsville Historical Society and Historic Village invites you to become a member by calling 440-572-0057. Please learn more about the Strongsville Historical Society by visiting www.strongsvillehistoricalsociety.org.
