Welcome Back, Wildcats!

You have been missed! We can’t wait to see our Wellington students and parents. We are excited to begin the 20-21 school year and while we know it doesn’t feel like past years, it doesn’t mean that it can’t be the greatest year yet!

Back to school always brings a certain level of anxiety to children and even parents. Given the uncertainty of how the school year will progress and all of the new rules and procedures for virtual and in person learning, this year will be no exception.

Take a look at these ideas..

Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills are life skills that all children (and adults) need. You might have noticed that LISD has taken a direct approach to meeting the SEL needs of students by adding specific times for teachers to focus on these skills each day. (YAY, LISD!!!)

What are some SEL skills?

  • Empathy
  • Kindness
  • Self-Awareness
  • Conversation Skills
  • Relationships
  • Coping Skills
  • Mindfulness
  • Managing Emotions
  • Attention

For obvious reason, these skills may have lacked practice during the last 5 months of quarantine and may need some attention. We will be spending time working on them at school, but here are some ideas for practicing at home practice too!
