News You Can Use
Goodbye Summer - Hello Fall!
It is hard to believe that it is soon the first official day of Fall (it is September 22)! Somehow we are already seven weeks into the school year. The Fall Book Fair sets up next week and Fall Break is just around the corner. The Bryan Learning Commons has been a very busy place. Each morning there are, on average, 75-85 kids in the LC. We have kids finishing school work, watching assigned videos, typing, watching ESPN, chatting with friends and checking out books. It has been so great to watch this awesome space evolve into the preferred place for so many kids each morning. This is not the "Shhhh" library from our past! It is busy and buzzing and fun!
Fun in the Learning Commons!
The LC provides a space for many different activities each morning.
We love our DEAR days
What could be better than to spend an entire class period reading in the Learning Commons?! Once a month, each ELA class schedules a"Drop Everything And Read" day for the kids.
What I am reading: Stella By Starlight by Sharon Draper
I love everything that Sharon Draper writes and this book does not disappoint! With a story line described as "bravery battling prejudice", it is both captivating and hopeful. I very much recommend this one!
Book Fair News
Each year our Book Fair includes many of the current year's Truman Award nominees. These are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Be sure to stop by the Book Fair when you are at Fall conferences to get some great deals on awesome titles! P.S. It's never too early to shop for the upcoming holidays!
