9/25: 2:35 dismissal

September 30th-October 3rd, there will be a 12:35 dismissal for Student-Led Conferences. These conferences are led by your child. If you did not schedule a conference at back-to-school night, your child's teacher will contact you about scheduling. Parents may schedule additional conferences with their child's teacher at any time during the school year. Likewise, teachers may request a conference whenever they feel it is in the child's interest to do so. Students work hard planning for this conference; please plan to attend with your child.

Our librarian, Mrs. Sanderson, will be having a book fair during conference week. Please stop by the library after school September 30-October 3rd.

We want all of our Coyotes to be safe and supervised at all times. If your student does not ride the bus to school, please use our Bingham Street drop-off area for safety and efficiency. Beginning at 9:15 there will be supervision to welcome students at that area of the school. If you arrive prior to 9:15, it is important that you stay with your child until you hear the 9:15 bell. Please avoid dropping off in front of the school on 128th, unless you plan to park and come into the office with your child. Thank you for your cooperation!

We have a very helpful transportation department. If you have any questions, issues about something that happened on the bus or at the bus stop, or concerns about a late bus, please call the transportation office directly at 253-298-3865. Sign up for Bus Bulletin for timely bus notifications.

If you wish for your child to ride a bus other than the one they normally ride, get off at a bus stop other than their normal stop, or change to parent pick-up, please send a note with your child in the morning. We must have a note to allow students to change their of end-of-day routine. Also, in case of an emergency for which you cannot send a note, please call prior to 3:30 to ensure we have time to communicate the change to the teacher and the student. We respectfully encourage you to send a note in the morning with your child; thank you for your support.

These two Coyotes had their Bee Slips drawn at our recent assembly and won t-shirts. Congratualtions Shayna Moevao and Abdiel Hernandez!

We are thrilled to be getting a new school next year! Thank you, voters! This is what it will look like. The address is 1920 128th Street East. Drive by and check out the progress.

Big picture

If you have been contacted regarding your child missing vaccines or vaccine exemptions, the deadline to submit documentation is Friday Sept 27, 2019 to avoid exclusion from school. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Collins PTA General Fundraiser

Our fall fundraiser kicks off on September 16th and will run through September 30th. We are doing a catalog and cookie dough fundraiser this year. There are lots of prizes for the kiddos to earn, including a Blitz party. Surprise #BFF Buddies are milestone instant prizes kids will get when 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 items are sold. Expect the fundraising packet to go home with your child on September 16th. This fundraiser will make it possible for PTA to offer events and programs throughout the school year and keep our PTA in business.

Emergency Kits

Emergency Kits are a comfort for your child if there is ever an emergency where your student needs to stay at school longer than usual. The PTA sells the kits for a nominal fee as a service to Collins families. These kits are on sale until September 23rd. You may provide a homemade kit for your child if you wish. We encourage you to write your student a letter of comfort to be included in the emergency kit. Cash or check accepted. Make checks payable to Collins PTA.

Reflections is a National PTA, Washington State PTA and Collins PTA art competition. Students create their own original piece of art based on their interpretation of a given theme. The theme for 2019-2020 school year is "Look Within". Judging takes place at four levels: Collins Elementary, FP Council (district) level, WSPTA (Washington State PTA) and finally NPT (National PTA) level. Students cannot have help from a teacher or parent. There are seven art categories, each with its own guidelines: Visual Arts, 3D Visual Arts, Music Composition, Film Production, Photography, Dance Choreography and Literature. An interest form will be sent out by September 20th. Deadline for submissions will be October 21st. Late submissions may not be judged but would be displayed at the Reflections Celebration Night (date TBA).
