Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao

Kia ora Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao whānau

What a busy end to the term!

On Thursday next week, Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao will be staging its biennial School Production. A massive amount of work and learning has gone into this project from the tamariki and I can’t wait for it all to come together. The staff team has been superb under pressure to make this a reality right near the end of the school year. This date was chosen so the production could highlight and celebrate the learning over the full year. This will be my first production at the school - I’m really looking forward to it!

Congratulations to our amazing group of young athletes who represented Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao at the Canterbury Athletics Championships. Any time a student has an opportunity to represent their school is truly special. The fact that these students have progressed through the Pegasus Zone is a major achievement! We sent 7 students to this event - also a major achievement for a school our size! Our team comprised of the following students, listed with the events they qualified for:

Ryan C - high jump

Tommy D - long jump

Sam P - long jump

Rosa S - 100m sprint AND high jump

Annabel S - discus

Paige T - 1000m

Bowen K - 1000m

Thanks to Rachael Spencer for leading the group and supporting all the students for the entire day. Thanks also to Holly Greenslade, Sport Coordinator, for running extra training sessions and completing all the administration requirements.

As we start to think about the end of the year, we also look forward to 2023 and with this, I am pleased to announce the teaching team structure for next year.

The entire school is well supported by our super Office Administrator Kathryn Macintosh.

With the school year close to ending, we are very sad to say farewell to the amazing Sophie Lawson, who has been employed in a Fixed Term position for 2022. Sophie has made a massive contribution to the school, specifically forming strong learning relationships with our tamariki and their parents/caregivers. Sophie has been a wonderful addition to our Year 5/6 learning space and will be greatly missed by all. Thank you so much Sophie, for your diligence, hard work, positivity and great teaching over the past year. The next school to employ you will be very lucky!

South Eyre Road is still undergoing road works which is having a massive impact on traffic outside our school! Please always collect your child(ren) from inside the school or at the main school gate and if parked on the opposite side of the road, walk them across using the coned crossing area. We have had some children crossing further down Heywards Road or trying to cross without a parent/caregiver - this is extremely dangerous, especially with the increased traffic on the road. While the coned crossing area is not legally a ‘crossing’ the cones and road markings indicate to traffic that this is where children will look to cross. Using this area yourself when walking across the road, also sets a good example for the children. Please help us to keep your children safe.

Take care

New Device Cabinets for Tuhura and Hopara!

This year the PTA were pleased to fund the new device cabinets for Tuhura and Hopara. The old cabinets were badly in need of replacing, and just not fit for purpose anymore. The kids are loving the new cabinets which now store all their devices and cables in a tidy and safe fashion, all while charging them! Things like this are why we fundraise - so a big thank you to the school community for making these cabinets possible.

New PTA committee
This week we held the annual PTA AGM and new officers for the committee were voted on. Congratulations to Angela Boereboom (Chairperson), Jenna Martin (Deputy Chairperson), Cherie-Lynn Lewis (Treasurer) and Maria Pile (Secretary) as the new officers. Also to Kim Frankish, Hannah Sutherland, Kristy Storer, Amy Scott-Thomas, Kirsten Smart and Kat Sutherland as our committee for 2023. A big thank you for your service to those stepping down: Nicola Adams, Kristy Pritchard, Jody Dench and Martha Ackroyd.

Christmas Raffle

Will be drawn next week!

Lost Property
Just a reminder that the lost property can be found in the foyer of the library. There’s a mountain in there so please try and come in and sort through anything your child may have lost. The PTA reviews it a couple of times a term, and anything that is clearly named is returned to your child. Some of the naming of the items are not clear, or have an old name in them, however you may recognise them as your child's.

Sausage Sizzle Coordinator needed for 2023!
Been thinking lately you’d like to be a more active member of our school community? We are looking for someone to take over the coordination of the monthly sausage sizzles. This basically involves: loading the sizzles on Kindo, processing in the morning, sorting the BBQ supplies, and organising the adult help for the day. Full training will be given. Please get in touch with the PTA (ClarkvillePTA@gmail.com) if you think this is something you’d like to take on for the school. We have a wee job description we can give you if you are interested in knowing more. Also, the sizzle doesn’t have to be on a Friday .. it can be any day we have a volunteer for!

Thanks, Kristy and Nic
