Chaplain's Chatter: Thoughts, Reflections and Musings from the Catholic Chaplain
Much has been said this week about the well being of refugees and migrants hoping to find a safe home here in the United States. Pope Francis, the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops, Leadership Conference of Women Religious and many, many other Catholic organizations and leaders have expressed their deep concern over the events of this week. As Catholics, we have a moral imperative to care for the stranger; welcome them, extend generous hospitality to them and ensure their safety. We must not let fear and hysteria lead to discrimination and exclusion.
Below is a link to a very good article by Jesuit father and author James Martin, SJ. He is a priest of the same Jesuit province of our very own Jesuits Fr. Bob and Fr. Ed. Please take the time to read this article and view the short video of Fr. Jim's message found within the article. Fr. Martin is a very respected scholar and captures the urgency of the situation and reminds us as Catholics how were are called to respond.
Mercy, hope and peace,
~ Jamie

"Migrants and refugees are not pawns on the chessboard of humanity. They are children, women, and men who leave or are forced to leave their homes for various reasons, who share a legitimate desire for knowing and having, but above all for being more.” - Pope Francis
