DAY 1: Monday June 11: Evening
Late Afternoon Meet up in Duluth
5PM - 7PM Dinner at Valentini's on the Rose Garden (included in registration)
7PM- 9PM Digital Photography Session by the Lake with Kristen Pless (Digital Photography Professor)
Location: Meet at Rose Garden (Duluth Rose Garden, 15 S 13th Ave E, Duluth, MN 55802), Bring cameras mobile devices iPhones, cameras, ipads
Landscape photography / distance + close-up / learn strategies for capturing the "golden hour" light, working with available photo gear and mobile cameras. Images will be used in our day 2 photo collage and experimental video workshops.
DAY 2: Tuesday June 12 : All Day at UMD
9AM - 10:30AM Photoshop Landscapes (Kristen Pless and Joellyn Rock)
Working with photos from the evening session by the lake and mixing other images and textures, create new imaginary landscapes. Participants will work with photoshop and also have the opportunity to work with paper and printed images using traditional collage techniques. Imagery will be remixed in the afternoon video projects.

11AM - 12:30PM Chromakey Video (Joellyn Rock, Jeremy Holien, & MMADlab staff)
Meet in Motion + Media Across Disciplines Lab (MMAD lab) for introduction to Green Screen video techniques. Experiment with figure / ground interaction using background imagery and bodies in the video studio.
12:30PM - 1:30PM Box Lunch (included in registration)
Group Splits into TWO Working Groups for the Afternoon:

Remix Video (Joellyn Rock)
Meet in Mac computer lab to work in iMovie and Final Cut. Learn how to re-combine digital landscapes with chromakey video, remixing into other video clips and audio loops to create experimental videos. Learn how to let go and make new discoveries with layers of video.

Jeremy Holien
Jeremy Holien serves as the Visual & Media Arts Education Specialist for Minnesota's Perpich Center for Arts Education and the Minnesota Department of Education. Holien is a co-author of the recent National Core Arts Standards in Media Arts. He is responsible for statewide workshops, networks, and innovative initiatives in visual and media arts education, consulting regularly with school district and post-secondary programs. Additionally, he presents regularly on the cognitive value of arts education, artistic literacies, 21st century skills, leadership, and public policy centered in the arts.
