From the Principal...Kristy McKnight

This wasn't the Ferson Halloween that we are used to, but I can tell you that smiles, laughter and fun were still had throughout the entire school! Thank you to all of the parents that helped coordinate activities, and thank you to the teachers for executing such a wonderful day for the kids! Mrs. Ignoffo put together a little slideshow of our fun. You can enjoy it here!

Below you will find information regarding CogAT testing for 3rd - 5th Graders that includes a letter from our assessment department. Please reference this for information regarding the timing of the test, as well as the purpose of the assessment.

Monday is the deadline to submit pictures or videos for our Veterans Day video. Please see below for all of the details.

Have a wonderful and safe Halloween!

CogAT Testing

CogAT Testing for 3rd and 5th grade students is approaching. The window for the assessment is November 9th - November 20th. Please click here for more information regarding the assessment. Dates and times for testing of in-person learners will come from your child's classroom teacher. Remote students have the option to sign up for a time to take the assessment at our Haines Center. Links for this sign up are included in the letter.

Turn Back Your Clocks!

Don't forget to turn your clocks back on Saturday night. Hopefully you can all enjoy an extra hour of rest. Or if you're like me, your kids will wake up extra early on Sunday!

Veterans Day

Although we won't hold our traditional Veterans Day Assembly at school this year, we will still be taking time to honor our veterans. On November 11th, all staff and students at Ferson will watch a pre-recorded Veterans Day program. Remote students will also have the link to this presentation, so they can view the Ferson Veterans Day program. The link to this program will be shared with all Ferson families so that you have the opportunity to view it as well.

If there is a veteran that you would like to recognize by having them included in our Veterans Day video, please email our LRC director Renee Ignoffo at sharon.ignoffo@d303.org. In your email, please include your child's name, the veteran's name, the veteran's relation to your child, a picture of the veteran, and branch of the military. Please send all pictures to Mrs. Ignoffo no later than Monday, November 2nd.

Additionally, we are looking for veterans who are willing to record a 30 second - 1 minute video to be used in our presentation. We would like veterans to share something they learned while serving, something they feel elementary students should know about being a part of the military, or ideas on how elementary students could show their support for those who are or have served. If you are interested, please send your recorded message to our LRC director, Renee Ignoffo at sharon.ignoffo@d303.org no later than Monday, November 2nd.

Thank you for helping us create a valuable presentation honoring our veterans!

From the Nurse

We wanted to provide an update on important information regarding Covid exposure and return to school guidelines. The IDPH Exclusion Guidance is pictured below and also linked here for your reference.

Who is a Close Contact?

You are considered a CLOSE CONTACT of a COVID-19 positive person if you were within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more, regardless of whether either person was wearing a face covering, during the period the COVID-19 positive person is considered contagious.

If you have reason to believe that your child or another member of your family had a close contact from a Community exposure, please contact the Health Department at 630-208-3801 or your Primary Care Provider for guidance.

The role of the District 303 Nurse is to perform contact tracing specifically in relation to case evaluations that are directly associated with the school setting. Additionally, due to FERPA and HIPPA the Nurses are not at liberty to discuss student/family health status without their expressed consent.

The Federal Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) has been extended through June 30, 2021. As a result, any child between the ages of 1 and 18 is eligible to receive free meals at any District 303 site, as well as two off-site locations. It is not necessary to provide the names of the children receiving meals at the pick-up locations.

  • Elementary school students who attend in-person every day will receive free meals at school when they order lunch
  • Elementary school students who are learning remotely may pick up meals at any site
  • Middle school students who attend on the hybrid schedule may sign up to receive the next day's meal that will be distributed after school
  • Middle school students learning remotely may pick up at any site
  • High school students attending in-person may pick up meals after school.
  • High School students learning remotely may pick up meals at any site
