Teen Depression

Depression is a mental illness marked by feelings of profound sadness and lack of interest in activities. This is a condition in which teens (or any age group) will feel hopeless and/or sad for weeks or for months. 1 in 20 teenagers experience depression and it is the number one reason why teenagers would think about or commit suicide. Even though depression can happen in both men and women, women are more likely to experience depression than men.

  • Low self-esteem
  • Alcoholism and substance abuse
  • Academic problems and failures
  • Difficulties with relationships
  • Social isolation
  • Self-harming behaviors
  • Suicide
