HCHS Sophomores & Freshmen Parents
Your child recently completed an in-school assessment using the College Equipped Readiness Tool (CERT). CERT is aligned with the ACT College and Career Readiness Standards and is a good predictor of where your child might score on the ACT. CERT gives you and your child lots of great data and activities to support your child’s growth towards proficiency of these standards.
Q: What can my child and I learn from his/her CERT data?
A: Using the CERT reports available in your child’s “Homeroom” tab, you can see a variety of data that will help you and your child gauge his/her current proficiency around the College and Career Readiness Standards.
Q: How can we access this data?
A: From the “Managed Bookmarks” tab on your student’s Chromebook, click on “HCS Clever Portal.”
- Use your student’s school email and password to use the Google login option to log into Clever.
- On the Clever Page, scroll down to the “CERT for Schools” app under “More apps,” and click on it.
a. Homeroom tells you your student’s composite in the 4 tested areas as well as how many he/she got right (✔), wrong (x), or left blank (‒) on each subject assessment.

Understanding Your Child’s Course Report
The Course Report provides, among other things, a score in each of the four subject areas tested. To understand how your child currently stacks up against the Standards, you should compare your child’s score to the benchmark scores (the “Benchmarks”) in each of the four subject areas. The Benchmarks represent the level of achievement required for students to have a 50% chance of obtaining a B or higher, or about a 75% chance of obtaining a C or higher, in a corresponding credit-bearing first-year college course. The Course Report also includes an estimated ACT composite range to help you predict how well your child is likely to do on the “real” ACT in 11th grade. - College Readiness Standards report - detailed information about student mastery of the ACT College & Career Readiness Standards on this CERT assessment
How does CERT help my child improve his/her level of mastery of the College and Career Readiness Standards which will help him/her demonstrate growth on the Spring CERT assessment (given in April)?
A: Your child’s teachers will use CERT data to reteach and remediate targeted areas for growth based on whole class data. Additionally, CERT provides your child with targeted, individualized remediation through the Study Hall and Quizzes features.
- How to use Study Hall and Quizzes
- Within Study Hall, student areas for growth are marked with two icons below.
- For each subject area, students should use the “Lesson Filter” dropdown box to show their “Recommended & Consider” mini-lessons (2 - 5 minutes in length).
- After students complete the “Recommended & Consider” videos, they should move to the Quizzes section of each subject area. (Some teachers may also assign quizzes to students as part of formative assessment)
