We are Halfway There!

It is hard to believe we are wrapping up the second quarter and reaching the halfway point in our school year this week!

Our teachers are continuing to engage your children in engaging instruction while preparing to communicate with you about your child's progress on second quarter report cards, which will be sent home on February 3. In addition, winter parent/teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14. The focus area for these conferences will be in the area of mathematics. To schedule your conference, please log in to your HCPSS Connect account. You will see the availability listed for your child's mathematics teacher. If you need assistance logging in or scheduling your conference, please contact the front office.

We are excited to announce that our PTA is offering a drop-in Valentine's workshop on the afternoon and evening of February 13. Our hope is that your children will be engaged in a fun Valentine craft while you are able to focus on your parent/teacher conference. Please stay tuned for more information, including how to sign up!

We hope to see many of you at tomorrow evening's International Night! We look forward to celebrating the many cultures and traditions within our community.

Notes from the Health Room

Cold and Flu season is upon us. Students who are ill and have a fever should remain at home until the temperature has been normal for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications such as Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. Students with symptoms of acute illness such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, and persistent coughs should be observed at home and evaluated by their health care provider. If your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness (such as the flu, strep throat, pink eye, Fifth’s disease, etc…), he / she may not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours or until cleared by the health care provider in writing. We also request that you please inform the Health Room staff of these diagnoses, so that we may observe for additional cases.

It is also requested that parents refrain from bringing their sick children to after school events or into the school building or office, when the child is too ill to attend school. Children with symptoms of acute illness such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, and persistent coughs are considered contagious and should not be brought into the school building.

Learning Together Program - Pre-School and Prekindergarten

The Bushy Park Regional Early Childhood Center (RECC) pre-school and prekindergarten programs are making preparations for classes for the 2020-2021 school year. These classes include children with and without disabilities. The program’s focus is helping all children develop communication, literacy, math, problem solving, motor, and social skills. Parents of children who will be 3 by September 1st or 4 by September 1st may obtain an application packet by contacting Ginny Price in the school office beginning Monday, January 27.

All applications must be returned by Friday, February 28. A limited number of openings are available for children without disabilities. Children are selected based upon screening information given on the application form, completion of the “Ages and Stages Questionnaires,” and observations of the child’s participation in a playgroup.

If you have any questions, please contact Katie Hereth at (410) 442-2448.
