Pilgrims on the Way of Truth

This is the time of the year where we all search our calendars for one very elusive event: quiet, unscheduled time! Between preparing for finals, holiday concerts, celebrations, travel, decorating, shopping, volunteering, wrapping, cooking...not to mention a few "holiday tournaments" thrown in - it's a miracle to find ourselves with that quiet time to reflect on the true spirit of this entire season.

Today's All School Mass provided some much needed time to simply be present. Rev. Beekman spoke to the students about overcoming our fears. As the days leading up to our holiday break become increasingly frenetic and we may fear we will run out of time to get everything accomplished, let us remember the words from today's homily and invite God into our hearts. We may not be able to change the length of our to-do lists, but we can remind ourselves why we are doing all these tasks.

Thank you, dear families, for sharing your students with us. They make us laugh, learn, grow, and want to be better for them every day. They are the why in our every effort.

Dec. 11th: Deadline to Bring in $$ for Annual Christmas Drive!

Our Annual Christmas Drive will be ending on Monday, December 11th! This is a wonderful time of year where the whole student body of Marian Central gives back to those less fortunate in our community, and our students love getting to play "Santa." Each first-hour class has adopted a family that they will be providing gifts for this holiday season. Please encourage your students to give back this holiday season by providing a cash donation by December 11th. Funds will be collected in all 1st our classes and our Student Council Officers will purchase the gifts and bring them back to the classes to wrap on December 13th to be delivered to our Parishes. It is a great way for our students to show support and kindness to those who may not be able to provide during the season of giving.

Help Support P.A.D.S with Candy-Cane Sales!

This week, our Theatre Club will be selling Candy-Canes during all lunch hours (Monday - Thursday). 1.00 each, or 6 for $5.00, students can send a candy-cane and a personalized note to a dear friend, favorite teacher, or helpful staff member! They will be delivered (with theatrical flair!) during 9th period classes on Friday, December 15th. All proceeds will benefit the P.A.D.S Ministry, which provides overnight shelter and meals to the homeless in McHenry County. Let's help spread some Christmas cheer in our school while helping our community!

Preparing for Semester 1 Exams

Many instructors have set December 15th as their final deadline for any late/absent work. The best way to support your student is to encourage him/her to check grades, discuss missing assignments and class policies for late/absent work with teachers, and arrange to make up any missed quizzes this coming week.

With the Dec. 15th deadline, this allows our instructors to update and do a final audit of Quarter 2 grades over the weekend. The Parent Portal will close later Monday night, Dec. 18th, as we prepare to administer semester exams.

Remember - NHS offers tutoring sessions throughout the week after school, and our Writing and Math Labs are open daily during all lunch periods! Our amazing guidance office is always available to help find the right supports for our students!

Attention Seniors Applying to Colleges/Universities with Jan 1st - Jan 8th Deadlines!

The Guidance Office will be closed during Christmas Break. If you are planning on applying to any colleges/universities with January 1st-January 8th deadlines, please turn in your transcript/counselor recommendation requests by Friday, December 15 to give the counselors time to process those requests. Also, please understand that you do not have to have your portion of the college application completed prior to turning in the transcript/counselor recommendation requests to guidance. If you have any questions, please stop by the guidance office. Thank you!
