Social media prepares them for the work force, as many jobs require knowledge of these tools. It connects students with others around the world and can teach understanding and empathy. Finally, it make communication quicker and easier.

Even though social media can profoundly change teaching and learning, there are some challenges to using it in the classroom. The biggest drawback is the issue of cyberbullying. It can also be a distraction to students who find themselves sucked into an online world. Students may post inappropriate content or come across something that is inappropriate. Another drawback is that it is difficult to monitor. And finally, some students may not want to create social media accounts which add to their digital footprint.
