Fall 2021 in Review
'Tis the Season... to be Grateful
From everyone at the CCG, we wish you all the best during the Christmas Season and a very Happy New Year! We look forward to working with you in 2022.
A New Face at the CCG ...
Fun Facts about Kelli:
-Kelli is an identical twin so don't worry if you see two of her around campus.
-She loves all things Harry Potter and Marvel
-Kelli also enjoys organizing and planning events
In the Garden
From the garden, we've donated 297 lb. of tomatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, and more! This produce was donated directly to organizations in Wingate and Monroe. Check out the map below to see where we've donated our produce.
Fall Festival
The inaugural Fall Festival was the event to be at! We hosted over 300 people in the garden for food trucks, games, pumpkin decorating, and many other events. We are so grateful for the Biology Club, School of Pharmacy, Mental Health Awareness Club, LatePost Band, P.U.P.P.Y. Lab, Nor'East Treats and Eats, Gullah Q BBQ, Dandelion and Friends, and everyone else who helped make the Fall Festival a success!
Agricultural Immersion Experience
In the Doghouse
Over 70 students dropped in this semester to our weekly Doghouse hours. This is a time for anyone to come and relax and grab a cold soda from the fridge or a snack while they wait for club meetings to begin (or procrastinate homework).
We hosted the first Friendsgiving at the Doghouse on November 17th! While this event was just for our international students, we hope to expand this to the entire student body in the future. We were so excited to partner with the Office of International Programs to host this event, and we're so grateful for all of the Wingate University faculty and staff that donated their favorite Thanksgiving "fixins" to the event. Check out our recap.

Mathematical Analysis and Green Energy Projects Working Together... Who Knew?
In Math 116, the students were asked to look at the energy usage in Burris, Alumni, Stegall, Hinson, Cuddy, and Neu on November 3, 2021 and November 10, 2021. These days were picked since they are 1 week apart and the weather was drastically different—November 3 had a high of 56°F and a low of 48°F, whereas November 10 had a high of 78°F and a low of 47°F. So, we were curious to see if the buildings would run differently.
When the students were asked to compare the buildings, here’s what they found:
Looking at Seeret Brar’s project, she did an excellent job of showing the total energy usage in all 6 buildings to see that Cuddy uses the most energy (41% of the total energy) and Hinson uses the least (2%).
The students were also asked to compare the two days with certain buildings. They constructed graphs in order to visualize the difference. Josiah Cates looked at Neu and Burris. He noted that it looks like Neu didn’t seem to change based on the weather, but Burris did adapt to the temperature a little better, using less AC on the colder day.
When asked if they felt Wingate was “green” Brar and Cates agree that Wingate could do better -- turning off the AC or heat at night when no one is around and switching to energy efficient lights or motion sensor lights to help use less energy.
