Here we are at the end of another calendar year. With the majority of our Signature Projects either currently in construction, or in construction by June 2021, the next two to three years will be very busy. We are excited to share our progress with you and hope you will follow us on this journey of improvement for our students and our community at large.
Best wishes for a safe winter holiday.

Bond Oversight Committee Application Deadline January 22, 2021
In November 2018, the voters of Davis approved Measure M, a $150 million General Obligation Bond Measure designed to improve campus safety, modernize classrooms and labs for 21st century learning, replace aging plumbing and electrical, improve school access for students with disabilities and more. DJUSD is currently accepting applications for positions on the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee, which is charged with monitoring expenditures of the bond funds and to ensure that they meet the criteria as set forth in the ballot measure. Committee members may not be an employee, official, vendor, contractor, or consultant of the District. All Committee members serve in an uncompensated capacity for a term of two years, and not exceeding three consecutive terms. More details and the application on the Measure M Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee website.
Contracting for the Da Vinci High School Tech Hub
The Design phase for the Da Vinci High School (DVHS) Tech Hub is well underway and the project will be submitted to Division of the State Architect (DSA) on December 17. Contractor interviews have been completed and a recommendation to select the builder for the project will be brought to the Board in January 2021. This Signature Project received a CTE grant of $3 million dollars to advance CTE programming at Da Vinci High School. This Project is scheduled to break ground in July 2021. See our DVHS Bond website for more information.
Davis Senior High School Aquatic Center
The DJUSD Bond Program will include the construction of a new Aquatic Center for the Davis Senior High School (DSHS). The DSHS Aquatic Center will be 50 meters long by 25 yards wide and will include 17 competition lanes, two diving boards, and space for two regulation water polo courses. The proposed location for the construction of the Aquatic Center is adjacent to the New Gym. This project will require the removal of eight classrooms and a realignment of the existing fire lane just south of the baseball field. However, the new classrooms to be constructed in the STEM Project (see below) will more than offset the loss of the eight temporary classrooms. To learn more, visit this Bond Project website and watch for details for Virtual Community Outreach on this project coming soon.
Davis Senior High School STEM Building
The Design and planning for the proposed Davis Senior High School STEM building Signature Project is well underway. It will include twelve (1,440 sq. ft.) lab classrooms, a large collaboration space (2,800 sq. ft), prep rooms, restrooms and storage. Watch for more details about this exciting advancement on our website.
Davis Senior High School CTE Projects Coming Soon
DSHS has been awarded State CTE Facilities Grants for three pathways: Engineering (Robotics), Transportation (Auto), and Agriculture. The State grants will provide 50% ($6 million) of the cost of the three projects and the remaining funds ($6 million) will be provided by the Bond Program. The CTE grants will help to construct two new Robotics classrooms and enhance two existing classrooms, expand existing Automotive facilities and will modernize existing Agricultural facilities.
Digging for New Science Lab Classrooms at Emerson and Da Vinci Junior High
The Emerson / Da Vinci Junior High Science Lab Classrooms groundbreaking took place on November 19 and attendance was limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. Since that day, construction activity has been continuous, as the site is cleared and excavation commences for building pads and utilities. Project completion is expected in Spring 2021. Stay up to date with Bond project progress on our website.
DJUSD Early Learning Center at Korematsu Campus
On Thursday, November 5, DJUSD held a small, socially-distanced groundbreaking event for the new Early Learning Center (ELC) at the Korematsu Elementary campus. This project includes seven preschool classrooms, an administration building, an expanded parking lot, a bus loop and an additional drop-off zone. Otto Construction continues to progress at a very rapid rate for the new ELC. A Virtual Community Outreach is posted on our YouTube site or you can refer to our website for site specific information about this project.
Multipurpose Rooms Moving to the Next Phases
With the anticipation of four new multipurpose rooms (MPRs) in our District, there is much news to share with our community. The Birch Lane MPR project has been approved by the Division of the State Architect (DSA) and will begin construction this winter. The North Davis and Willett MPR projects are currently being reviewed by DSA and we anticipate a groundbreaking for these new buildings in Spring 2021. The César Chávez MPR project will be submitted to DSA in December 2020. The builder for the BLE project has been selected by the Board and the builder for the CCE, NDE, and WIL projects will be brought to the Board in January 2021.
