Home Stretch Before the Holidays
I had the privilege of attending our Rocks Football Banquet on Sunday evening, where it was amazing to hear about the outstanding accomplishments of our players and coaches during this historic season. As a way for me to share how much the team and their season meant, I wrote a blog capturing my many lessons learned throughout my week as a an "honorary coach." Feel free to read my blog (see link below) to learn more about our Rocks Football family.
All in all, a busy weekend but the kind of weekend that reminds me once again how amazing it is to be a Rock. Our students, staff, and Westfield community are truly incredible. Wishing all of our families a wonderful holiday break!

Rock Strong Award
Westfield Washington Schools is proud to announce a new staff appreciation initiative: the Rock Strong Award presented by the Westfield Education Foundation! This is a quarterly award, given out at each school plus operations and student support programs, to recognize teachers, instructional assistants, instructional coaches, building secretaries, bus drivers, substitute teachers, food service staff and operations staff for the great work they do for our children and our community!
Each quarter, all schools plus operations and student support programs (BAC/TOTS/All Aboard) will review your nominations and select someone who represents its values and culture to receive the Rock Strong Award. Westfield Education Foundation will present the award winners with a commemorative plaque and a $50 Amazon gift card as a way to show appreciation for all that they do.
Staff, students, families and the public can submit nominations. In order to facilitate this, the submission form will be a constant on the Shamrock Blast and physical submission forms will be available at the front desk of each building.
The first Rock Strong Awards will be given out at the February 8 school board meeting and the submission window for this quarter will close on January 25.
Click here to nominate someone now. It only takes a minute!

A big congratulations to the choirs, bands, crew, and everyone else involved in this year's Holiday Festival. It was an amazing production that got everyone in the holiday spirit. Thanks to Mrs. Wessel, Mr. Muth, and our performing arts department.
Reminders
Early Dismissals
Parents, please be aware that if your student will need an early dismissal pass on Monday or Tuesday before Winter Break, our WHS Front Office Staff requests that you call the attendance line (317-867-6801) BEFORE 10 AM on the day of your child's early dismissal and LEAVE A MESSAGE. That line is checked every 10-15 minutes and there is no need to call back to speak to someone live.
If a last-minute early dismissal situation comes up, please know that it may take up to 15 minutes or longer to get your student out the door to leave.
Once you have called our attendance line, your student will receive an early dismissal pass. It is the student's responsibility to communicate with his or her teacher about the early dismissal.
We appreciate your cooperation. Our WHS Front Office staff does a phenomenal job with classroom attendance, early dismissals, and absences, but with over 2600 students in our building, last-minute requests are not able to be granted quickly. Thank you for your understanding.
College Planning Night
All students in grades 9-11 and their parents/guardians are invited to join us for College Planning Night on Tuesday, December 14th from 6:30-8:30 PM. This event is designed to inform and prepare students about their post-secondary educational opportunities after high school. Whether students are heading to vocational programs or two-year or four-year colleges, this evening will provide you with the steps you can take now and in the future to prepare for the admission process and the transition to college.

Important Reminders for Students and Parents
We'd like to remind you of two items that have come to our attention. The first is that many students are using food delivery services such as Door Dash, Uber Eats, restaurant delivery services, etc. to have lunch delivered. We'd like to remind you that this is not allowed. Please see our policy in the WHS Student handbook:
Students may not have food delivered from an outside source - any exceptions must have approval from an administrator. Students will not be called to the office to pick up lunch – if you anticipate bringing your child’s lunch to school, please let him/her know beforehand to check in the office for his/her lunch. For more information, please see our WHS Student Handbook: https://www.wws.k12.in.us/domain/428
In addition, we have seen an uptick in parents dropping off students before school at Door #1 which is our staff parking lot. We understand that everyone is in a hurry, but this has become a safety issue and we are asking parents to please use ONLY Door #9 (main athletic wing entrance) and Door #32 (main Union wing entrance). Staff and students who walk to school often are in the staff lot and we ask your cooperation in keeping this area free from extra traffic.
