This Week in Pre-K
All about Frogs!
Week of May 2nd, 2016
This week we learned all about frogs! We brainstormed Fr- blend words to write about and illustrate. We practiced sounding out words by reading Frog in the Frame and through playing word detective. We worked on our sight word recognition skills by playing a fun class vs. teacher game-the class won! We also learned a frog song with movements. Students looked at the lyrics and searched for the word frogs to circle.
We played frogs on a log to work on subtraction skills. We practiced counting by 10's then worked on ordering number cards by 10's (10, 20, 30...) to work on number recognition skills. We jumped like frogs and measured our jumps using a yard stick. We compared jumps to determine the longer jump.
We read many frog books such as The Tale of a Tadpole and The Red-Eyed Tree Frog. Most of the books showed photographs of frogs in their natural habitat. Our favorite frogs to read about were the poisonous ones! We learned lots of interesting frog facts and made a web to show what we learned. We learned about the frog life cycle and cut and pasted life cycle stages in order.
This week we also learned about fairness. We talked about what it means to be fair and how we can show fairness at school. We got to watch the 2nd grade and a Kindergarten class present on fairness!
We also had a mystery reader! Mrs. Rauch read us The Dot and brought in supplies for us to create our own piece of dot artwork. The class loved it! If you're interested in being a mystery reader, or coming in to volunteer in any way, please let me know!
Today we had our Mother's Day Tea! We were so excited for our families to visit! We had some yummy treats, looked at all the amazing art throughout the school and gave our families some gifts! Thanks for coming!
Next week we will learn about butterflies, their life cycle and the fl- blend!
Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Mother's Day!
