Homelessness in Atlanta

By Mason Bussey

Why Homelessness?

My chosen practice is Homelessness and my hope is to spread awareness in other people's mind of the current lack of human dignity being given to homeless people, which is due to them not being able to live in a stable home, along with decreasing homelessness through advocating for legislation that provides homeless shelters.

Homelessness throughout the city regarding Children

According to homeless census data estimates, more than 10,000 people in metro Atlanta experience homelessness on any given night, with more than 40 percent being women and children.

Petition for the Homeless Bill of Rights in California

By signing this bill of rights you effectively prohibit police, healthcare workers, landlords or employers from treating homeless people unfairly because of their housing status. Although this petition only involves California, the way they handle their homeless will be the model of the rest of America because they have the highest homeless population in the country,

How it relates to the Preferential Option to the Poor

My passion project relates obviously the Catholic Social Teaching of Preferential option ot the poor and vulnerable because the Homeless people that I seek to help are the poor and most vulnerable in our society. Through the preferential option for the poor and vulnerable we not only have to become partners with homeless people, but we must take a commitment to take action against any injustices that prevent the homeless people from realizing their God-given dignity.

Coalition for the Homeless in Metro Atlanta

This coalition has current programs that assist homeless people such as Transitional housing and Residential programs to allow homeless people a stable household which provides the basis for any improvement of homeless people's current condition.
