Pleasant Valley Family Newsletter
September 3, 2021
Our mission is to empower and inspire a community of lifelong learners and leaders!
Dear Pleasant Valley Families,
Your children have done an amazing job starting this school year!
This week we have started the beginning of the year district-wide assessments. We call this “Fall Benchmarking”. Benchmarking is completed three times a year- at the beginning, middle, and at the end of the school year. This gives our teachers valuable standards-based information regarding our learners’ current levels of performance in relation to previous and current grade-level expectations so that we can best meet their needs by differentiating instruction and having a gauge to measure their growth throughout the year.
The Ohio Department of Education tracks students that are deemed "not on track" in reading in grades Kindergarten through grade 3 using benchmark assessments. Any parents or guardians of students in the grades of Kindergarten through thrid that score below the expected "benchmark" will be receiving a Reading Improvement Monitoring Plan (RIMP) letter later this fall.
Please click here to read PCSD's COVID Protocols for 2021-22. Parents should check their children for symptoms before they leave for school each day and kept them home if they are sick or exhibit any of the symptoms listed in the SYMPTOM CHECK area of the document. Masks are mandatory on buses and strongly recommended inside the school. We will distance to the extent possible in the school.
As always, I want to thank you for your partnership with Pleasant Valley! We are very appreciative of all of you! Should you ever have any questions, concerns, or just a great idea you would like to share, please send me an email at bokas@parmacityschools.org or call the main office at 440.885.2380 any weekday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Very Sincerely Yours,
Mrs. Stephanie Boka

ATTENDANCE REALLY MATTERS
It is very important that every one of our learners is at school EVERY DAY and ON TIME. Missing too much school has long-term, negative effects on students, such as lower achievement and a higher likelihood of not graduating.
Birthday "Treats" and Invites
In addition, birthday invitations may only be passed out at school if there is one for each child otherwise, they will be sent back home with the child.
Registration is open for Fall Children’s programs at Parma Branch of CCPL / 6996 Powers Blvd / 440-885-5362.
