Mrs. Jump's Newsletter
First Grade 2015-2016
Note From the Teacher
This was a wonderful week in 1st grade! We have SO many fun activities planned for the remaining days until Christmas Break! As a result, this is probably a lengthy newsletter, so I apologize! In Reading, we worked on finding key details in fiction books. In Writing, we reviewed the components of narrative writing for our writing benchmark and completed our writing benchmark this week. In Math, we took our Unit 4 Big Idea 2 Post Assessment. In Science, we began learning about germs and how they spread.
PTO is excited to be hosting Jenny's Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe the week of December 14th-18th. Students will be able to bring money to purchase and wrap gifts for the special people in their lives to place under the tree for the holidays. Our class is scheduled to shop on Monday at 10:00 A.M. IF your child plans to shop, please send them with their money on Monday. A few students have already turned in money and it is safely put away until Monday.
Also, December 18th we will be celebrating our Grade level reward and December 21st, we will be building Gingerbread houses! If you are able to donate items for our gingerbread houses, we are in need of:
- Peppermints
- Skittles
- White Icing
- Pretzel Sticks
- Lemon Drops
- Graham Crackers
- Gum Drops
- Sprinkles
- Shredded Coconut
- Gallon Ziploc Bags
- Hershey's Kisses
- Any other items that would make a great Gingerbread House!
If you are interested in being a guest reader, please let me know! We would LOVE to have you! :-)

PBIS Update
The purpose of the PBIS program is to teach and encourage positive behavior. One way we do this is through our student signature lanyards. Students have the opportunity to earn signatures throughout the year by making positive behavior choices. Students can trade in signatures for smaller rewards or save up to redeem for larger rewards. This month students who have saved 100 signatures had the choice to participate in a Christmas Campout Signature Celebration. During this celebration, students will enjoy grilled hot dogs, a special ice cream treat, and a Christmas movie. We are excited to celebrate positive choices with these students! This celebration will be on December 18th. If your child is attending, you should have received an email from regarding this. Please let me know if you have any questions about this celebration!
