The ABORiginal names for shellhabour has been recorded as both yerrowah (meetindg), and wonwin,(place where there were big fish), the eurpoean name shellhabour refers to the large quanitites of shells found in aboriginal middens along the foreshore in the early to mid 19th century. due to the mid 19th century for the producion of line these vast middens on longer remain.
