An MSD Communication that Cuts out the Clutter!
January 9th 2023
Seniors got an opportunity to talk directly with college freshmen for South Medford High School’s ‘Ask a College Student’ event.
Seniors Prepare for Life after High School
As we enter the second half of the 2022-2023 school year, high school seniors get focused on what comes after high school.
We know there are several pathways after high school graduation including college, trade schools, military and the workforce.
For students looking to attend college, now is the time to finalize college applications. College application deadlines are coming up in January and February. This year, because of record applications at our Oregon colleges, it is especially important to meet those deadlines. You can use this chart to track when applications to Oregon schools are due.
This is also prime scholarship season. College-bound students should be connecting with their Future Center to stay informed.
Now is a great time for students to apply for the Oregon Promise Grant or to apply for multiple scholarships with the OSAC application. It is also not too late to apply for FAFSA. See your school’s Future Center or counselor for assistance.
For students who are seeking another post-high school pathway, their school’s Future Center (at North and South) or counselor can help them learn about apprenticeship opportunities, get connected to local employment resource centers and more.
‘Raider on the Spot’ events are happening at North and South this month where students can apply to SOU and learn if they got in ‘on the spot.’
Students interested in applying to SOU can look for information here. Students interested in applying to Rogue Community College, can find information here.
School staff are dedicated to making sure students have a solid plan in place for when they graduate.
ABLE Leadership Nominees
Kathy Beers
Hoover Elementary's Kathy Beers has been nominated as an ABLE Leader in the Medford School District for ensuring quality student learning!
One parent shared it was magical to watch a student fall in love with school in learning while being in Kathy's kindergarten class.
That parent said, "It is only through seeing how a teacher's guidance can shape a child's love of learning that I am able to realize how much Kathy did to reach my son right where he was."
Thank you, Kathy!
Kami Monk
Thank you to Kami Monk at Ruch Outdoor Community School for being a leader in the Medford School District.
Kami was nominated for having an amazing way to connect with each student, showing them how exciting learning is!
Jackie Beck
Jackie Beck at Lone Pine Elementary School has been nominated as an ABLE Leader for Living a Disciplined Character.
Mrs. Beck is being recognized for bringing JOY to all our students as she fosters creativity and the love of music.
Students are inspired by Jackie to see themselves as having musical talents whether it is singing, playing an instrument or composing.
She is patient, flexible and empathic and focuses on connecting to the individual students. Jackie leads with JOY, and Lone Pine is better because of her!
School Highlight - McLoughlin Gets Winter Facelift
Over the Winter Break, staff and construction crews worked to improve McLoughlin’s campus.
The carpet in the woodworking room was removed and the floors got a nice polish.
Outside, a concrete slab was added to the sidewalk area for student drop-off. This will make it easier and safer for students getting off the bus.
