West Genesee District e-Newsletter

Message from the Superintendent
Dear West Genesee Families,
Congratulations to our newly graduated Class of 2022! Their success culminating a school career was captured and celebrated in a wonderful Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 18. This marked the return to the SRC Arena and Events Center on the campus of Onondaga Community College. Speakers’ remarks, music performers, video presentations, and the SRC professional setting supported the focus of each individual graduate receiving their diploma. It was a wonderful day!
Thank you to everyone present to celebrate and all those who supported this event. Best wishes to our newest alums as they move on to their next chapter. They will always be Wildcats and part of West Genesee Stronger Together!
As summer begins, please remember the many offerings within our community. The Town of Camillus Parks and Recreation programs, the resources of our local libraries, shopping centers, restaurants, and much more. The recent large gathering at Gillie Lake for music and fireworks was a perfect start to the warm weather months and an opportunity to participate in new or renewed traditions.
The West Genesee School District will remain active this summer with ongoing programs, professional development, and preparation for fall return. Notable are the overt signs of the Capital Project approved by voters in December. Click here for a continued reminder of the scope of the work as we anticipate great progress this summer.
Please continue to look to our e-Newsletters for updated information and important recognition. We will continue to do our best to provide communication that is pertinent and timely. Enjoy the updates and well-deserved kudos of this edition.
Sincerely,
David C. Bills, Superintendent of Schools

WG Students Participate in Service Project: Operation Summer Cinch Sacks
West Genesee High School students, under the direction of Megan Toumbacaris, speech-language pathologist, participated in the service project, Operation Summer Cinch Sacks. The students had been working on the important social skill of thinking of others over the course of the school year. It is a hard concept to learn, but is important as students get older and prepare for life beyond high school.
It was a team effort with kindergarten teacher Julia Gauzza; special education teacher, Traci Washo; and teaching assistants, Kara Creighton, Erika Nelson, Mary Telesca, and Christine Theberge pitching in to get the job done.
Summer Food Support Information
Many students enjoy breakfast and lunch at school on a regular basis. It is understandable when families find it challenging to provide those meals during school vacations. Please note the following free lunch and food pantry information.
Food pantries partner with the Food Bank of CNY to provide low cost, nutritious food to those in need. The following is a list of food pantries and services available in our community to assist families. To find your appropriate food pantry location and to sign up, contact the Interreligious Food Consortium (IRC) weekdays at 315-474-8855 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Their website is: http://www.ifccny.org/.

Reminder: District Discontinued Blackboard Mobile App Last Year
Just a reminder that last summer the District stopped offering its Blackboard mobile app. The District had decided to discontinue the app since the District website is mobile responsive and has translation capabilities (which was not offered from the app.); we now use Tip411; and we shifted to SchoolMessenger to send communications.
Although it is no longer supported, if you already had the app on your cell phone the calendar may still be functioning. We cannot, however, guarantee that the calendar information is feeding correctly from the District online calendar.
Also, as we don't have access to update the mobile app home screen, the Supply Lists and Summer Reading Lists on the mobile app are not the latest. You can find the latest versions of those documents on the website from the appropriate school links section.
