Mrs. Badgett's Weekly Update

Week of December 14th

As we enter into the season of giving, Hazel Dell has once again chosen to donate items to a school in Central Indiana. This is the second year that we will be changing the traditional book exchange into an optional service project. If you are interested in donating items, we will be collecting markers, crayons, colored pencils, scissors, rulers, pencils, kleenex, dry erase markers, and pencil boxes. (They have plenty of notebooks and notebook paper.) Please do NOT wrap the donated items. They will be boxed and delivered to the school w/ love from the HD school community!

Reading

This week we will be focusing on figurative language. We will use Zaption to discuss similes, alliterations, metaphors, and personifications. Last week, the students focused on theme. Please see the pictures below of the students using KaHoot and Zaption!

Your child will also be reading a novel, based on his/her reading level, with a small group of students. We are working on answering higher-level questions over our reading by analyzing, evaluating, and creating.

We will also be reading passages. Please reference Canvas to view the articles. There is a link to Canvas below.

Math

We are working on Unit 6 (Division; Map Reference Frames; and Measures of Angles). We will have an assessment over Unit 6 on Friday. Your child will bring home a review packet on Thursday. Please review to ensure that your student is ready to ace the assessment! Please continue to practice multiplication AND division facts at home. Please let me know if you need any flashcards. We use the app "Multiplication Genius" in class to practice!

Writing

Since our final drafts are completed, we will be working with LiquidText to provide comments to the writing pieces. Also, we will be working on our end of the unit prompt for persuasive writing.

Homework

Your child will have homework each night. The reading log is due on Friday. Also, MobyMax is a great website for your child to practice at his/her instructional level. The link is below.
