School Counselor's Corner
Winter 2016, 7th Grade, Amy Jacques, School Counselor
Great Start!
It is hard to believe that in just a few days we will be living in 2017. One third of the school year is over. It all goes by so fast. Overall the seventh grade has enjoyed a great start. The first day jitters are over, the start of new friendships are beginning, goals are set, dreaming of the future is happening and settling into the NFMS routine has occurred. Now it is time to get through the long winter's wrath, we will do that with engagement, comnections and making learning challenging and fun!
First Day....
The students came into school with welcoming and encouraging messages written in chalk by NFMS staff members. Through out the beginning of the year, during our warmer weather you could see our students out there with chalk adding their own messages and replacing ones that faded. A fun, engaging, and encouragement promoting activity for our students!
Winners of Pink Spirit Day for Breast Cancer
You can't have much more spirit then these four students! The school was a sea of pink on Pink Day for Cancer Awareness. Again, another school and community opportunity for our students to participate in that generates civic mindedness.
School on Veteran's Day?
Yes, and the 7th grade (head speared by Ms. Laedke) used this honoring day to teach our students the the importance and meaning behind Veteran's Day. The 7th grade spent the day learning from seven veteran's from all ages and time periods. Times of war and times of peace. The students were in awe, and asked respectful questions and then wrote some of the most endearing thank you notes to the Veteran's. In this picture is our oldest Veteran visitor and our youngest Veteran visitor. The gentleman on my left is my dad, Mr. Christophersen and the gentleman to my right is a former student of mine, Mr. Hess. This was a very meaning full event for our 7th graders and for the staff involved!

As 2016 closes out....
- This month we spend some time doing academic counseling, to review what worked and what did not work for this first trimester, to discuss study skill strategies and to explore how well time is being managed.
- Grades for the first trimester are posted in Infinite Campus, so this is a good time to review with our students their academic goals, strengths and challenges.
- Below is a link that provides many strategies for academic success. Explore the list, you may find some home bound ideas to put in place for your rising academia.
