Conrad Owl News
March 2022
Hello Conrad Families,
Thank you for attending Parent-Teacher Conferences last week! If your conference was impacted by the weather delay or closure, our teachers will reschedule to meet with you within the next couple of weeks. Conferences are a great opportunity to discuss your child's strengths and growth, and we love being able to connect with families.
Also, a huge THANK YOU for shopping our Scholastic Book Fair! With the proceeds from the sales, we will be able to purchase new books for our school library. Another thanks goes out to our parents who helped with setting up and working the Book Fair. We could not have done it without our parent volunteers!
Our next Family Engagement for March is a home activity in which students will create their own insect with whatever supplies they have at home. Think of paper towel tubes, pom poms, straws, popsicle sticks, paper scraps, egg crates, etc. Through this activity, we encourage you to brainstorm with your child and then help him/her plan out what he/she would like to make. A flyer will be coming home soon with directions and ways to best support your child in their creation and communication skills. The bugs will be placed on display in the classrooms when students bring their creation to school. The classes will use the creations for additional learning and exploring insects. We look forward to seeing your child's and your creation(s)!
Kindergarten Round-Up will be held on Monday, March 7th with two information sessions running from 2:45-3:45 PM and 3:45-4:45 PM at every D8 elementary school. If your child or someone you know has a child who will turn 5 years old by October 1, 2022, he/she will be transitioning to Kindergarten in the fall. We encourage all our Rising Kindergarten Conrad families to attend Kindergarten Round Up to help answer questions and relieve a little anxiety about this exciting transition.
Be sure to check out Nurse Sheena's COVID updates in the Nurse's Notes below. In addition, if your child will be absent from school, you can use the Student Absence Reporting form that is located on Conrad's website at anytime or linked here.
Here's to a marvelous March filled with lots of learning and laughter! We hope you will join us as we continue to connect with each other and build a strong community. At Conrad, we are BETTER TOGETHER!
Kindly,
Stephanie Lee

Conrad's Library Books
Our Scholastic Book Fair proceeds are going toward the purchase of new library books! Thank you for your support!
Just a friendly reminder about caring for the library books. In recent weeks, multiple books have been removed from circulation due to water damage, coloring on the pages, destruction by a pet, or lost.
Library guidelines were posted in the Parent Handbook:
- Keep your book in a safe place away from babies, pets, crayons, pencils, pens
- Keep your library book dry & away from food & drinks
We love that Conrad ELC has a library that our students can enjoy books with their families. Please help us maintain a large selection of books for all of our students.

Nurse's Notes
Conrad families –
Please continue to help support our efforts to keep Conrad ELC a safe and healthy learning environment by reaching out to notify us if anyone in your household has been tested for COVID or if there is a confirmed case. Remember, we offer free rapid COVID testing to students and families. If you have any questions please reach out to Nurse Sheena and she will be happy to help.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), handwashing is the single most important means of preventing the spread of infection. Washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after using the restroom, sneezing, coughing, wiping noses, and before and after eating will help keep Conrad a safe and healthy learning environment. Please encourage your child to practice handwashing at home, both your example and your encouragement are important.
SHOULD I SEND MY CHILD TO SCHOOL...?
- Children who have temperatures of 100.0 (Fahrenheit) or above should not attend school. Children should remain home until their temperature has been normal (98.6 degrees), without any fever reducing medication for up to 48 hours.
- Children who have cold symptoms such as: a constant runny nose, with abnormal color (green, yellow, or white) or thick nasal discharge, constant coughing, or lung congestion should not be in school.
- Children who have been diagnosed with an infection and have been placed on medication should not return to school until they have taken the medication for up to 48 hours after the first dose.
- Children who have had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours should not attend school for up to 48 hours.
- Children who have an undiagnosed skin rash or open skin lesion should not be in school.
- Children who have red, inflamed eyes with a thick discharge and have a fever and/or behavioral changes should not be in school.
If any of the above signs and symptoms are present at school, the parent will be contacted to pick up the child. We do not want children to miss school, but keeping sick children home will improve everyone's attendance and health in the long run.
If any of the above signs and symptoms last longer than 48 hours, please contact your child's school nurse before they return to school.
If your child is hospitalized or treated for an infectious disease, please provide your child's school a written statement from the health care provider that your child is no longer contagious and is cleared to return to school.
Student Absence Reporting
Labeling Student Items
In addition to clothing items, please also remember to label other items your child may bring to school such as water bottles, folders, blankets, etc.
If your child is missing anything, you can call or visit the office to check if it has been placed in the lost and found.
Siblings in Classrooms
Parking Lot and Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures
In addition, students should not be dropped off or picked up at the back of the school. That area is a bus loading/unloading zone. For the safety of our children, please adhere to these procedures and communicate to baby-sitters, family members, emergency contacts, etc. who may not receive this notice.
