Celebrating Hanukkah
Hi everyone,
Yesterday morning, we had a great time getting prepared for the upcoming holiday (beginning this Tuesday evening) - Hanukkah! We talked about the different ways we celebrate, like lighting the chanukkiah, playing dreidel, eating fried foods like latkes and jelly donuts, exchanging gifts, and spending time with our families. We received our laminated Hanukkah drip mats, so those were sent home with the students. I hope you get to use them as you light the candles and eat special foods throughout the holiday.
We actually learned two Hebrew letters yesterday - Tet and Yud! We talked about Tallit (prayer shawls), and how they begin with a tet, as does another upcoming holiday, Tu B'shevat, the birthday of the trees. The key word for Yud was "Yeladim," the Hebrew word for children.
In music, Drew Cohen led us in songs like "I am a latke," "I had a little dreidel," and more - we had a lot of fun singing with him!
Our Hanukkah celebration was definitely a hit. We created silly dreidel cards, played Hanukkah Bingo, and made edible dreidels (I think that was the highlight for the students!). Thank you to those of you who helped supply the snack ingredients!
I wish all of you and your families a wonderful holiday. Enjoy the break, and we'll see you back on January 11th!
