News from New Haven
Posts from the Principal
Welcome November! Feeling very thankful for our "big picture" thinking.
I wanted to share an article that was shared with me, that I feel sums up the culture of New Haven. This philosophy is what our staff embraces for all decisions that are being made regarding our school as a whole.
I apologize for not having the best copy to attach, but you can find it through http://www.ncee.org if you would like a better copy.
News to share....
If there are weather delays or cancellations the district will send out notifications to news and social media sites as soon as they make the decision. The decision to delay or cancel is always a tough one, especially when you consider the terrain of Boone County. However, it is always about safety, and the district will err on the side of caution. As a school we will be sending out an "All Call" to all of our families. We will try to send out the call as soon as we receive it from the district so that working families can begin making arrangements as soon as possible. I can't stress the importance of making sure we have any of your updated phone numbers. It's also extremely important that you have a plan in place for any days in which we dismiss early from school. Please make sure that you have individuals allowed to pick up your child(ren) from school listed on their enrollment forms or weather delay forms. For delays, the building would open based on what delay was called. For example, if it is a 1 hour delay, the building would not open until 9:00 and school would officially start at 9:40. Please do not just drop students off in the bus loop, as there is not staff available to take care students and the doors are locked. Also, if there is a 2 hour delay called, am kindergarten and preschool would be canceled. If you have any questions please feel free to call the office.
"Pumpkin painting with Pops" was a great night! Thank you to all of our volunteers for helping out. I know that the kids seemed to have a great time.
Don't forget that this weekend is the "Fall Back" time change!

Volunteering
We follow a strict policy regarding adults volunteering. We welcome volunteers, but also see the need to protect all of our students as well. In order to volunteer at New Haven you must 1) have an approved background check and 2) complete the volunteer orientation training (on-line) http://www.tildee.com/DiFKOb - You can also find the link on our webpage along the left hand side.
If you think you would like to volunteer or even go on a field trip with your child this year, you must have this in place. Please do not wait until the last minute, as the background checks are state controlled and we have no influence on how long it takes to get them back. If you do not have an approved background check on file a the time of your event / field trip there will be no exceptions made.
