10th Graders visit OSTC for a Showcase!
On November 13th and 14th all 10th grade students were invited to visit three programs at the OSTC North West Campus. Students spent the afternoon learning about the different CTE programs offered at the campus and the benefits of hands on instruction.
If you have a 10th or 11th grade student that missed the OSTC showcase, there is a visit on December 6th. If your student is interested, please have them see Mrs. Adams in the counseling office for the field trip information and form.
If your student is interested in OSTC but are unsure of the cluster that they are interested in have them look at this link:
https://ostconline.com/programs/pages/default.aspx
or have them come down to counseling to pick up an OSTC brochure.
10th grade students that are interested in OSTC should have filled out the “light at the end of your tunnel” paragraph and returned it to the OSTC box in counseling, if they have not done this yet, please hand it to your counselor on Monday.
Interested 10th and 11th grade students will also fill out an essay for their counselors if interested, this will be given to them in January/February.
Please speak to your child’s counselor with any questions or concerns.
Parents! Have you signed up for the MISTAR Parent Portal?
The MISTAR Parent Portal is a Web application that provides parents with direct access to student data. Using a confidential PIN and password, parents can connect to the student database to view their child’s data, such as grades, attendance, missing assignments, transcripts, and more. If you need help with your Parent Portal account, or need to sign up, please contact front office secretary Lynette Todd at ToddL01@wsdmi.org or 248-674-4134 to assist you.
The direct link to MiStar Parent Portal is:
https://mistar.oakland.k12.mi.us/waterford/parentportal/
As a parent, how can I best utilize Parent Portal?
Being able to check grades, missing assignments, attendance and tardies seem to be the best way parents can stay updated on their students’ academic progress.
An assignment is shown as “missing”, but my student says they turned it in…
The best way to verify your student turned in an assignment would be to contact that teacher through email or by phone. During school hours, email is the best form of communication. Staff email can be accessed under the “Staff Directory” tab on the Waterford School District home page, then clicking “Mott”. If you are unable to reach the teacher, having your student get the teacher to sign off that they received this assignment, but it was just not entered into the computer just yet, can also be helpful.
When I check my students missing assignments, sometimes I see links with attachments. What are these?
Teachers are able to upload assignments into MISTAR for students to access assignments. In MISTAR, if you find a link under an assignment, you are able to download and print that assignment for your student to complete and turn in, without having to wait for teacher communication.COLLEGE OF THE MONTH
